LG 27GX704A-B Appears with a Glossy Coated 27″ 1440p 240Hz WOLED Panel

Little official information is available for this screen so far, but it’s appeared on Amazon in the US and Canada already. The 27GX704A-B looks to be the first monitor offered by LG Electronics to feature a native glossy screen coating for the LG.Display WOLED panel, something that until now has been exclusively provided by Asus on some of their WOLED monitors. This screen looks like it will be an alternative to the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQDMG from last year, or rather an alternative to their updated ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR (Gen 2) version that was unveiled at Gamescom in August this year. It’s a 27″ sized WOLED screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate.
2nd Gen WOLED panel with a new glossy coating

This LG Electronics monitor, and the two Asus models (XG27AQDMG and XG27AQDMGR) referenced above, are using what we refer to as 2nd Gen WOLED panel, as opposed to any of the brand new 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panels. This is one of the earlier WOLED panels released to market back in 2024, now with a glossy panel coating applied by panel manufacturer LG.Display instead of the traditional matte anti-glare coating they normally use.
This gets a little confusing as when this panel was originally released in May 2024 the first iteration of the glossy panel coating had a few minor issues. For instance, it wasn’t completely grain-free unfortunately, having a minor 3% haze rating. LG.Display have now taken the same underlying panel but updated the glossy finish to make it 0% haze, as well as improve the reflection handling a bit. The updated coating is what Asus have marketed as their “TrueBlack” glossy coating, and it should be that updated and improved coating version that’s featured here on this new LG monitor.
It probably won’t be marketed under the “TrueBlack” name since that’s an Asus marketing term, but it should be the exact same coating finish coming out of the LG.Display panel factory as far as we know. From the information on Amazon so far, it looks like LG Electronics may just refer to this as a “glare coating”, instead of their normal “anti-glare” coating. We’ll have to wait for their official product pages to learn more on how they will position this new coating.
If you want to see loads of testing and comparisons about this new panel coating, the most appropriate information would be from our recent Asus ROG Strix XG32UCWMG review here.

LG 27GX704A-B Specs
The screen is 26.5″ in size (27″ class) with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a flat format. It’s got a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time, 275 nits SDR brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 98.5% DCI-P3. The 240Hz native refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR, with the screen earning the NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’, AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ and VESA ‘AdaptiveSync’ certifications.
For HDR the panel offers a peak luminance spec of 1300 nits, with certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black tier.

The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments. There are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) and 2x HDMI 2.1 video connections provided, along with 2x USB data ports and a headphone jack provided.
Pricing and availability
The monitor is listed on some regional pages for the manufacturer such as their Japanese site so far. It’s listed for $799.99 USD at the moment on Amazon with product pages live for US and Canada so far.
It remains to be seen whether LG will offer a glossy coated monitor using the new 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panel, although it seems unlikely given they have already announced a matte AG version with their 27GX700A.
