Full Information Released for the Samsung Odyssey G81SF with 27″ 4K QD-OLED Panel and 240Hz

Unveiled back in January at CES, the official product page for the Samsung Odyssey G81SF has now appeared on Samsung’s Canadian website, with other regions likely to follow soon. This provides us lots more information about this upcoming monitor than we had at CES. It’s a 27″ sized QD-OLED screen with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, competing directly against models from Asus, MSI and Dell that have been previously released and offering a high pixel density in the 27″ OLED monitor market. A couple of features differentiate Samsung’s model with the competition which we will discuss below, but the monitor offers a sleek metal design which is attractive and professional-looking.
Glare-free coating
Firstly, unlike all the other QD-OLED monitors released from other brands, Samsung Electronics have opted to add their own matte anti-glare coating to the QD-OLED panels being used on their 2024 and 2025 monitors. This changes the panel’s standard “semi glossy” appearance, to a matte finish, but does an excellent job of handling glare and reflections without introducing any obvious graininess to the image. Fans of glossy panels will be disappointed with this approach, but it does make the screen more suitable for daytime usage, and in more well-lit rooms.

Samsung’s website says that the coating “makes your screen 54% less glossy than conventional Anti-Reflection film, keeping it clear of reflections from external light sources” and that this monitor has been “Verified as Glare-Free by UL based on the verification methods used by UL.”
You can read loads more information about their added matte AG coating in our full “glossy vs matte coating” article here (as featured on their previous 32″ G80SD model) which includes all currently available OLED monitor coating options. This includes discussion on reflection and glare handling, grain levels, ambient light handling and black depth retention.
OLED Safeguard+

Another unique feature to their screen is the use of “advanced technologies to prevent burn-ins” (yes, plural!). This includes a pulsating heat pipe which can apparently help dissipate heat five times faster than a graphite sheet, along with a thermal modulation system which helps to automatically control brightness.
There are a range of OLED care functions offered of course and their spec says that “Burn-in at normal usage covered within warranty.(But, not covered for Commercial, abuse or mis-use)”.
DisplayPort 1.4, not DP 2.1
Unlike the Asus and MSI equivalents, but the same as the Dell model, Samsung’s G81SF has only a DisplayPort 1.4 connection and so you will need to use DSC to power the 4K @ 240Hz spec. For those who might have a modern graphics card like the new NVIDIA RTX 50 series, it’s a shame not to see modern DisplayPort 2.1 with UHBR20 bandwidth on this monitor nowadays. As well as the DP 1.4 connection there are 2x HDMI 2.1 video ports along with 2x USB data ports and a headphone jack.

Samsung Odyssey G81SF Specs
The screen is 26.5″ in size with a flat format. It’s built around a Samsung Display “4th Gen” 2025 QD-OLED panel which offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 166 PPI pixel density, 0.03ms G2G response time, 1 million:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3. The 240Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync, with certification granted under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ tier.

For HDR the screen has been certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black tier, and offers a peak brightness of 1000 nits, as per all other QD-OLED monitors released to date basically. HDR10 and HDR10+ standards are supported on this monitor too.
The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.
The No. 1 OLED monitor?…misleading marketing

Samsung have added some fairly sneaky marketing to their webpage and promote this screen with a badge which says “No. 1 OLED monitor”. An interesting claim for a screen that’s not even been released!
What they actually mean if you read the small print is that according to a report by analysts IDC, Samsung Electronics had a leading revenue market share of the PC OLED monitor market, between Q3 2023 and Q3 2024 at least. So what they really mean here is that they were during that period, according to this stat and report at least, the most popular OLED monitor manufacturer by revenue share. To us that doesn’t really mean the same thing as “No. 1 OLED monitor” as their badge suggests.
