Asus Unveil Two New Triple-Mode Gaming Monitors at Gamescom 2026

Introduction
After a busy few days at Gamescom 2026 we wanted to bring you news of some of the other new gaming monitors being showcased by Asus. We have already taken you through their new range of OLED screens in their dedicated esports Ace line-up but now we want to talk about two LCD gaming monitors that were displayed featuring triple-mode functionality.
Triple-mode is an emerging display technology, an extension of previous dual-mode functions, that allows you to switch between three distinct combinations of resolution and refresh rate. Unlike dual-mode screens, triple-mode options add an intermediate resolution/refresh rate. So, you have even more choice now for different gaming situations and a screen that delivers it all, so whether you’re playing AAA titles or FPS-type games these triple-mode screens have you covered.

Asus ROG Strix XG27UCMG – the world’s first 4K triple-mode LCD monitor
We start by looking at the world’s first 4K triple-mode LCD screen. Now we have seen a few of brands recently unveil their own triple-mode displays including models from MSI, Philips and AOC but this is the first offering from Asus and the first to offer 4K resolution capabilities in a ‘Fast IPS’ LCD technology panel.
Triple mode 4K, 1440p and 1080p
The Asus ROG Strix XG27UCMG features a 27” sized ‘Fast IPS’ panel with a native 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. And, should you require faster speeds then there are also two further resolution/refresh rate combinations that you can select via a triple-mode function which include 400Hz (overclocked) at 2560 x 1440 resolution or an even speedier 488Hz (overclocked) at 1920 x 1080, making this a great option if you want to switch between games that require more detailed visuals and those that require faster speeds.
The variable refresh rates are supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems and are certified under the NVIDIA ‘G-Sync Compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium’ schemes. Asus also promote the inclusion of “Variable Overdrive 2.0” which should hopefully help control response times during VRR situations.
Other specs and features
In other specs this screen has a 0.3ms G2G response time spec, 1300:1 contrast ratio, 400 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 95% of the DCI-P3 colour space.
The screen also incorporates Asus’ Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB-sync) technology to reduce motion blur via a blur strobing reduction backlight that can be used at the same time as VRR. Other gaming enhancements include and ROG Gaming AI technology such as AI Visual, Dynamic Crosshair and Dynamic Shadow Boost.
It will also include Asus Smart Pixel technology which will help enhance every detail to deliver sharper visuals even at the lower resolutions – something we recently saw in action on their 32″ 4K XG32UQWMS and PG32UCWM OLED displays which worked nicely. The screen also supports Asus’s DisplayWidget Center software to help you control and customise your monitor to meet your gaming requirements.
Connectivity
Connectivity options include 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C (with DP Alt Mode and 15W power delivery) and 2x USB Type-A ports. In addition there is a built-in KVM switch function with hotkey control and a headphone jack.
Pricing and availability
This model is due to be released in Q4 at a price of €499 Euro.
Asus ROG Strix XG27ACNS – with up to 920Hz refresh rate
Second to feature in the triple-mode space from Asus was the ROG Strix XG27ACNS, again part of their mid-tier ROG Strix range, this time offering lower resolutions but boasting higher refresh rates.
This features the same 27″ sized ‘Fast IPS’ panel technology as the XG27UCMG model but offers a native 2560 x 1440 resolution and 480Hz (overclocked) refresh rate. The triple-mode support here allows you to switch to 620Hz at 1080p or to a super-fast 920Hz at 720p, so again gives you the versality to play games which focus on graphics and image detail or chase higher frame rates and speeds for competitive game play.
In other specs it features a 0.3ms G2G response time spec, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 95% of the DCI-P3 colour spaces. Gaming highlights include support for ELMB-sync and ROG Gaming AI technologies, namely Dynamic Shadow Boost, Dynamic Crosshair and AI Visual. Asus’ DisplayWidget Center software is also supported which allows you you to customise your gaming set-up.
Connectivity options include DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 and USB Type-C (with 15W power delivery).
Pricing and availability
This model is due to be released in late Q4 at a price of €329 Euro.
