Samsung Display Develops the World’s First 4K 360Hz OLED Panel with a Range of Exciting Updates

Ahead of Computex 2026 next week, Samsung Display (the panel manufacturer) have announced the development of the World’s first 4K resolution, 360Hz refresh rate OLED monitor panel. They’ll be unveiling this new panel next week at the event, but it offers a range of really impressive updates and features for the OLED panel market. As well as the 4K 360Hz combination it’s the first QD-OLED panel to feature a dual-mode function reaching 680Hz, it has an RGB stripe sub-pixel layout, and it even reaches the VESA DisplayHDR 600 True Black tier offering improvements in brightness.
Key panel specs
The new panel is 31.5″ in size (32″ class) and forms part of their latest Penta Tandem QD-OLED technology. It will offer a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and a 360Hz refresh rate. Clearly that’s going to be a massive challenge to power at that spec for gaming, although with modern technologies like DLSS available, and some people preferring to play older game titles, this certainly gives you more head-room than the existing 240Hz-max panels of this resolution. It will also support future system upgrades.
Samsung Display say that this new combination of 4K 360Hz was made possible “through optimization of the panel circuitry and driving system”.
“Many customers have described the new 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz product as a near-perfect monitor that delivers everything consumers expect from a premium monitor, including ultra-high resolution, an ultra-high refresh rate, high brightness, and enhanced readability,” said Brad Jung, Vice President and Head of the Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display. He further added “Building on the fundamental image quality advantages of QD-OLED and our continuous research and development efforts, Samsung Display will continue to introduce innovative products that exceed market expectations.”
Dual-mode support for the first time from QD-OLED

Equally exciting is the fact that Samsung Display are now introducing dual-mode support for the first time for their QD-OLED monitor panels. If you’re unfamiliar with what dual-mode offers, you might want to check out our recent article here, but this new panel can support a massive 680Hz refresh rate at 1080p resolution.
That’s not quite as fast as the 720Hz we’ve seen from some 27″ 1440p WOLED monitors, but it will run at a much more common and useful 1080p resolution on this panel, rather than a lowly 720p on the WOLED panel which is a very niche use-case. This dual-mode support allows users to push higher frame rates where needed for fast and competitive gaming situations, or switch back to the native mode for more graphically focused titles.
VESA DisplayHDR 600 True Black certification

This is also the first OLED monitor panel we’ve seen announced so far which will meet the True Black 600 certification tier. To achieve the True Black 600 grade, a display must express black levels at 0.0005 nits or lower (obviously fine for an OLED) while also reaching peak brightness of at least 600 nits for white as well as red, green, and blue combined, based on 10% APL. It must also be able to reach 350 nits for full screen white / 100% APL.
This is a step up in brightness performance compared with even the TB500 panels we’ve seen released over the last year or so and it’s great to see further advancements here. Samsung Display didn’t reference a peak brightness spec in the press release though at this time but we’ve asked.
RGB-stripe layout
Like their 34″ ultrawide 5th Gen panel that was released earlier this year, this upcoming new panel will also feature an RGB-stripe layout. Samsung Display refer to this as “V-stripe” and it will align the sub-pixels in vertical columns, instead of the previous triangular layout of earlier gen QD-OLED panels. This helps eliminate any remaining visible fringing and text clarity problems, although on 32″ 4K QD-OLED panels this was already very minimal we felt due to the pixel density. Still, it’s obviously a welcome change without any drawbacks.
Timelines and monitor adoption
Samsung Display say they are “currently in discussions with more than 10 global customers regarding the supply of its 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz product, which combines top-tier specifications with the company’s latest technologies. The company plans to begin full-scale mass production in the second half of this year.”
So far no actual monitors have been announced using this panel, perhaps we might see some early signs at Computex 2026 next week. Monitor release usually lags around 3 months behind panel mass production, so depending on when the panel actually goes in to MP in H2 (we suspect the latter part of H2), we’d probably expect to see monitors released early in 2027. Perhaps monitor announcements will be more likely at Gamescom at the end of August 2026.
