Showcased this week at Computex 2025 was Gigabyte’s new MO27Q28G. Breaking from recent tradition, this is a new LG.Display WOLED monitor, with the company previously having being largely tied to Samsung Display QD-OLED panels until now. It’s a 27″ sized screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 280Hz refresh rate, with a range of additional features offered. Perhaps most exciting of all is that this will feature a new Gen 4 LG.Display WOLED panel using their latest ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ technology, offering improvements in brightness and performance. We’ve got some updates to this screen included below too.

META 3.0 WOLED Panel – the first Primary RGB Tandem Panel

The LG.Display WOLED panel is listed as featuring “META 3.0” technology and we sought additional clarification from Gigabyte’s product team on this. They confirmed that this will be one of the new 4th Gen WOLED panels from LG.Display, the first monitor panel in fact to feature their ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ technology, moving away from MLA and MLA+ which has been used on their monitor panels to date. You can find loads more information about 4th Gen WOLED in our extensive video coverage here.

The removal of the MLA layer seems to improve the appearance of black in the presence of ambient lighting as well, rather than having a minor purple tint like you’d see on many MLA WOLED monitors in such tests.

Sub-pixel layout

Note that “Primary RGB Tandem” refers to the structure of the light emitting layers of the OLED panel (upgraded from 3 to 4 layers now), it does not relate to the sub-pixel layout which we confirmed remains RGWB, albeit the latest improved layout from LG.Display for their WOLED panels. As a result, text clarity is improved a little compared with 27″ 1440p panels that use the older layout, and it brings it on part with models like the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDP which has a 27″ 1440p WOLED panel with the new pixel layout too. Although that model does not have the new 4th Gen WOLED structure underneath of course.

280Hz refresh rate is a bonus update

We originally expected this 27″ 1440p Gen 4 panel to offer a 240Hz refresh rate when LG.Display first unveiled they were working on a Primary RGB Tandem monitor panel, but that has been updated to offer 280Hz instead which is a bonus!

Brightness improvements thanks to the Gen 4 panel

The screen meets the VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black tier, a modest step up in brightness requirements compared with the wide range of HDR400 True Black monitors on the market and this screen, but this monitor will offer

  • 1500 nits peak brightness spec (1.5% APL) which is increased a fair amount from the current 1300 nits WOLED panels on the market.
  • We have also confirmed that for full screen white (100% APL) it will reach 335 nits, again a reasonable upgrade over current OLED monitors which tend to reach around 270nits commonly.
  • Other specs for 10% APL and so on are to be confirmed

MO27Q28G Specs

In other specs there is a 0.03ms G2G response time, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 330 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and wide colour gamut covering 99.5% DCI-P3. Note that the latest Gen 4 panel offers slight improvements in colour gamut compared with previous WOLED monitor panels.

Adaptive-sync provides VRR support with certification under the NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ schemes. Note the response time spec on the spec card is wrong, it should be 0.03ms G2G, not the listed 1ms G2G.

VRR Anti-flicker modes are available along with an “Ultra Clear” Black Frame Insertion (BFI) feature for reducing motion blur.

The screen has a matte AG coating by the way which as far as we could tell in their product showcase area was the same as existing matte WOLED panels in grain level and reflection/glare handling. As expected really.

The screen features Gigabyte’s updated Tactical Switch 2.0 for quick resolution and display size adjustments and a range of “AI-based” OLED Care features minimize the risk of burn-in from the OLED panel. It is backed by a 3 year warranty that includes burn-in cover as well. A KVM switch function is supported as well.

Connectivity includes 1x DisplayPort 1.4 (so not DP 2.1 here, not that it’s needed for this spec), 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode, data and 18w power delivery). The screen supports PiP / PbP modes, has 2x USB data ports, 2x 5W integrated speakers and has a new low-profile metal stand that offers tilt, height, swivel and rotate functions.

Pricing and availability

This model will be released around July/August time and will be priced (on promotion apparently) at $499 USD. Keep in mind that is the global price point and is subject to the tariff situation in the USA.

Update 26/6/25 – An LG.Display press release has confirmed that this panel is now in production which further supports the expected monitor release date, although we believe this will likely be more August than July at this time.
