After a long chat with Asus today at Computex we checked with them that we were ok to publish this new titbit now and we were – following on from the recent announcement of their new 32″ 4K glossy WOLED monitors, Asus are planning to develop more glossy options later this year. This will offer buyers even more choice if they are after new glossy panels based around LG.Display’s WOLED technology. The new planned monitors will feature the same ‘TrueBlack’ screen coating of the 32″ models which offers a “zero haze” finish and so removes any lingering grain that their first glossy WOLED panel had.

A New 27″ with 540Hz Refresh Rate

Most exciting was the news that they will be developing a new 27″ sized screen based around a new LG.Display WOLED panel that offers a 540Hz refresh rate. LG.Display previously had the fastest OLED panels on the market with their 480Hz OLED panel (as featured in the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDP), but recently Samsung Display have overtaken them with their 500Hz QD-OLED panel (featured heavily at Computex, including on upcoming Asus’ own ROG Strix XG27AQDPG). It looks like the next step in this competition will be for LG.Display to offer a 540Hz option.

This will be a 27″ sized panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and will feature their new ‘TrueBlack’ glossy coating finish as we said earlier. [Update] we have now confirmed that this will also be a new 4th Gen Tandem RGB panel which is great news, and means it should offer higher brightness such as 1500 nits peak brightness for HDR.

This is likely to be released in late Q4, almost certainly on show at CES 2026 in January, or perhaps if we’re lucky at Gamescom in an early prototype in August this year.

Update 26/6/25 – Based on information provided in a later LG.Display press release announcing the successful development of this panel, we know that the panel itself will also offer a 720Hz dual-mode function using their DFR technology, available at a lower 1280 x 720 HD resolution. Some other specs and info for the panel are provided in this news piece.

Refreshing their previous 27″ 240Hz model

Asus told us they will also be refreshing their original ROG Strix XG27AQDMG with the updated and improved TrueBlack coating. That will offer improvements over the old coating, including removing the minor haze / grain it had even though it was a glossy panel. Similar timescales around Q4 this year.

More news on these new monitors as and when we get it.
