BenQ PD3220U for Designers and Colour Critical Work

The BenQ PD3220U is the follow up to their previous PD3200U display, offering a fresh design and some new features. There is now a borderless panel design and a brushed metal effect stand to create a more attractive looking monitor. The screen is aimed at designers and colour critical work. The PD3220U is 31.5″ in size and features a 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD resolution IPS-type panel.

Spec wise the screen offers a 5ms G2G response time, 1300:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth, and a wide gamut backlight offering 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 reference space.

There are factory calibrated preset modes for sRGB, Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 provided for an accurate viewing experience, and emulation of the smaller sRGB colour space which might be useful to some people. There is talk about HDR10 support for the screen but we don’t believe there is any local dimming supported, and a peak brightness of a fairly standard 350 cd/m2. So apart from the wide gamut and 10-bit support there doesn’t appear to be any real HDR support offered here, just the ability to receive an HDR10 input.

For connections there is 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, 3x USB type-C (with Thunderbolt 3 support and 85W power), 3x USB 3.0 ports and a headphone jack. A small wired remote control is provided to make changes and OSD alterations quick and easy as we’ve seen on previous BenQ displays.
