BenQ MA270S Announced with 27″ 5K IPS Panel and Thunderbolt 4 Connectivity

BenQ have recently unveiled a new monitor aimed at professional users. The MA270S is a 27″ IPS panel boasting a stunning 5120 x 2880 “5K” resolution and 70Hz refresh rate, giving an impressive 218 PPI pixel density on a screen this size for “Retina-class” resolution. This is an alternative option to the new Studio Display screens that were recently announced by Apple which also offer 27″ 5K IPS specs and are aimed at designers and content creators where picture clarity and colour accuracy is a priority.

BenQ MA270S Specs

This 27” sized screen boasts an impressive 5K resolution and 218 PPI pixel density, delivering detailed and vivid visuals. It’s built around an IPS LCD technology panel with a 5ms G2G response time spec, 2000:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth offering 1.07 billion colours and a wide colour gamut covering 99% of the DCI-P3 and 99% of the sRGB colour spaces.

It incorporates BenQ’s exclusive ‘Display Pilot 2’ software which allows users to adjust settings directly from the computer without having to use the OSD buttons. This includes the ability to sync with MacBook control enabling Mac keyboard brightness and volume controls to be altered for quick and easy adjustments. It also features an M-book mode for perfect Mac colour matching.

The screen also uses a ‘Nano-glass’ glossy screen coating helping to deliver deeper blacks, brighter highlights and great contrast from any angle.

The screen offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments for your comfort, and includes Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies to help reduce eye strain and fatigue.

HDR support is limited with support for HDR10 only and certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 tier. With no LED local dimming capabilities either this monitor will not deliver much in the way of HDR performance.

Connectivity

For connectivity there are 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, 1x USB Type-C (with DP Alt Mode, data and 35W power delivery), 1x USB-C data port (15W) and 2x USB Type-A data ports. To further enhance user experience, the MA270S is equipped with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports (15W and 96W power delivery) supporting daisy chaining, and there’s also a KVM switch functionality and PiP/PbP support making it easier for users to manage multiple devices with a single setup. In addition, there are 2x 3W integrated speakers and a headphone jack.

Availability and pricing

The BenQ MA270S will be priced £900 GBP / $1000 USD, and is available in some regions to order now (affiliate link). This makes it a far more affordable price than Apple’s latest 5K Studio Displays and an interesting option if you’re after a high pixel density monitor for professional uses.
