AOC Q27G40XMN with 27″ 1440p 180Hz VA Panel and Mini LED Backlight Released

Very little official information seems to be available for this monitor, but AOC have recently released a new gaming monitor in their line-up with a 27″ screen size, 1440p resolution, 180Hz refresh rate, a 1,152-zone Mini LED backlight and a very attractive price point. It seems to be an update to the very popular AOC Gaming Q27G3XMN we reviewed in the past, now with an improved number of Mini LED local dimming zones.

AOC Q27G40XMN Specs
The screen is 27″ in size with a flat format. It’s built around a VA technology panel and offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 1ms G2G response time spec, 5000:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 97% DCI-P3. It has a 180Hz refresh rate which is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR, and has been certified under the NVIDIA ‘G-Sync Compatible’ scheme.
The 1,152-zone Mini LED backlight offers high-end HDR capabilities, including decent local dimming (certainly compared to common edge-lit options), as well as certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 tier and a peak brightness spec of 1200 nits.
For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 1x HDMI 2.0 connections provided along with a headphone jack. The stand has a limited tilt-only function.

Improvements compared with the Q27G3XMN
The G40XMN has a few updates relative to the previous G3XMN model as far as we can tell at the moment, in the absence of much official information from AOV. The contrast ratio spec has been updated from 4000:1 to 5000:1 with a new VA technology panel being used. The main change has been with the improved Mini LED backlight, now with 1,152 zones instead of the 336 zones on the old model. This in turn has allowed for a higher peak brightness spec of 1200 nits instead of 1000 nits on the older model.
Pricing and availability
The screen has appeared on Bestbuy in the US at an attractive price of $299.99 USD. We’ve reached out to AOC to get more official information on the screen and it’s release in other regions.
