MSI Launch the MPG 272QRF X36 G-sync Pulsar Gaming Monitor

MSI, in collaboration with NVIDIA, introduced at CES this week the new MPG 272QRF X36 G-sync Pulsar gaming monitor. This 27″ sized Rapid IPS LCD display features a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 360Hz refresh rate. Designed for professional esports, it delivers the smoothest gameplay and sharpest visuals for competitive gamers seeking an edge thanks to the inclusion of NVIDIA’s long awaited ‘G-sync Pulsar’ technology. This technology utilizes variable frequency backlight strobing like their earlier ULMB 2 technology to deliver 4x effective motion clarity alongside (for the first time) the smooth, tear-free experience of G-sync Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). This technology sets a new standard for competitive gaming, ensuring precise aiming and crystal-clear motion even during the most fast-paced gameplay.

G-sync ‘Ambient Adaptive Technology’

Furthermore, the monitor includes G-sync Ambient Adaptive Technology. Using a built-in light sensor, the monitor automatically adjusts colour temperature and brightness to suit optimal viewing conditions at any time of day. Whether in a dimly lit room or a sunlit environment, the display adapts in real-time to minimize eyestrain and maintain consistent visual clarity. Like all G-sync monitors, it offers accurate colours, low-latency HDR, and is rigorously tested for maximum performance and quality consistency.
Optimized Control and Versatility

To ensure the monitor remains at peak performance, the MPG 272QRF X36 supports user-updatable firmware directly from NVIDIA. They’ve already confirmed that through a firmware update soon, the available Pulsar VRR range will be extended from 75 – 360Hz to 48 – 360Hz, to give additional room.

Beyond performance, the display offers advanced colour customization for a personalized visual experience and supports versatile aspect ratios to suit different competitive needs.

This includes specific screen size simulation modes with pixel-perfect scaling at resolutions of 2368 x 1332, 1920 x 1080, and 1280 x 960, ensuring uncompromised image clarity regardless of the chosen format.

The screen is 27″ in size with a flat format and built around a Rapid IPS LCD panel. It offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 0.5ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 nits SDR brightness (500 nits peak for HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit+FRC colour depth and an extended colour gamut covering 90% DCI-P3.
The 360Hz refresh rate is supported by a Native G-sync scaler for VRR. Connectivity includes 1x DisplayPort 1.4a, 2x HDMI 2.1 for video. There’s also 3x USB-A data ports, a headphone connection and an additional 1x USB 2.0 Micro-B for Firmware Update only. The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.

Availability and Pricing
The MPG 272QRF X36 should be released imminently, with NVIDIA saying these new Pulsar screens should be appearing from 7th January onwards. MSI told us that their model will retail for $649 USD. Further information and coverage on this screen from CES is coming soon.
