LG first unveiled their new UltraGear 32GQ950 gaming display at the 2022 CES event. The LG 32GQ950 features a 31.5″ sized Nano IPS panel offering a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution combined with a high 144Hz native refresh rate. This is boosted further with a 160Hz overclock feature as well, and is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems. This includes NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ certifications for VRR. A 1ms G2G response time is quoted, although take that with a pinch of salt as normal as that is for the maximum ‘faster’ mode they say. The screen also includes VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. More information below

A-TW Polarizer returns!

Interestingly LG also specifically mention an A-TW polarizer film for this monitor, something that hasn’t been seen for IPS screens for many years, but that can help improve off-angle blacks and darker content. It’s great to see this being included again on IPS panels which are often criticised for their “IPS glow”.

HDR 1000 Certification

The screen also features VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification although LG do not talk about backlighting type or technology in their limited press release so far. We believe this will be edge lit though as opposed to any FALD/ Mini LED backlight. There is a peak brightness of 1000 nits mentioned and a 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

HDMI 2.1 included

LG also say that thanks to 2x HDMI 2.1 it is compatible with the latest games consoles with 4K 120Hz being supported. They also mention VRR from HDMI in the limited press release information which is good news. We also know that 1x DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC will be included here along with 2x USB 3 ports and a headphone jack.

Other features

The official product page isn’t available yet but the press release also mentioned a stand with tilt, height and swivel adjustments.
