Dell UltraSharp U3224KB with 6K Resolution, IPS Black Panel and DisplayPort 2.1
Dell are today announcing the “World’s first 6K monitor” with their new 31.5″ UltraSharp U3224KB display with a massive 6144 x 3456 resolution. The screen also features IPS Black panel technology for improved contrast ratio and black depth, something that we looked at recently and were impressed by. The U3224KB is aimed at productivity enhancement with advanced features, exceptional image clarity and intelligent collaboration with a built-in 4K HDR webcam and modern connectivity options like Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and even DisplayPort 2.1.
Dell UltraSharp U3224KB Specs
The U3224KB is 31.5″ in size and has a 6144 x 3456 resolution IPS Black panel from LG.Display. There is a 2000:1 contrast ratio, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth and a wide colour gamut backlight with 99% DCI-P3 coverage quoted. The screen also carried the VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification meaning some edge-lit local dimming, a peak brightness of >600 nits and the pre-requisite wide colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth support.
The stand provides a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.
Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 connections provided!
The U3224KB offers a wide range of modern video connections. There is a Thunderbolt 4 connection including 140W power delivery for single cable connectivity from supported devices. There is also a single HDMI 2.1 port according to the spec sheet – bandwidth and capabilities not listed although it would need to be using the newer FRL bandwidths above HDMI 2.0 in order to support 6144 x 3456 resolution at 60Hz and 8/10-bit colour depth so we would assume that is at least supports that.
Dell also list DisplayPort 2.1 as being a feature of this new screen, with the Mini DisplayPort 2.1 sized connection being available. Again no capabilities listed and we know that officially DisplayPort 2.1 does not needed to actually include any of the new UHBR speeds, but given the resolution here we would expect some capabilities beyond DP 1.4 rather than just outright relying on DSC. More info when we get it.
An auto KVM function is also included for multi device usage from a single keyboard and mouse. Picture by Picture (PbP) and Picture in Picture (PiP) modes are also available. There are a load of USB ports as well, we count 4 USB A data ports on the back (along with USB C and Thunderbolt upstream ports). Dell also provide easy access, pop out front facing ports on the screen which offers another USB A port and a USB-C data port (15W power delivery) . On the back there is also a 2.5GbE RJ45 Ethernet connection .
4K HDR integrated webcam
The screen features a built-in 4K dual gain HDR CMOS sensor webcam for enhanced visual clarity. AI auto framing tracks and keeps you in the frame while an automatic ‘SafeShutter’ provides a seamless, secured conference experience. The screen also features built in echo cancellation mics and 2x 14W speakers which is impressive.
Availability and Pricing
The U3224KB will be released in Q2 2023 with pricing to be announced nearer the shipping date.
