Showcased first at Computex in May 2023 was the new Asus ROG Swift PG38UQ. This is a 38″ sized gaming monitor with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, the first of its size to market in fact. The PG38UQ also has a 144Hz refresh rate, supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible NVIDIA and AMD systems, and includes the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ and NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ certifications apparently. It’s built around a so-called “Fast IPS” panel, including as ever a response time spec of 1ms G2G. A product page has since appeared from Asus, so we now have more details to share.
Asus ROG Swift PG38UQ Specs
The PG38UQ is 38″ in size with a 3840 x 2160 resolution “Fast IPS” panel. It’s a flat format with a 16:9 aspect ratio. In other specs there is a 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits brightness(600 nits for HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, a 98% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth support.
HDR 600 and ELMB-sync included
The screen will also include VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification which includes some simple edge-lit local dimming, along with the colour enhancements listed above.
Support for Asus’ motion blur reduction mode “ELMB-sync”, which can be used at the same time as VRR, is also listed. There’s a range of familiar gaming preset modes and extra settings in the menu, and with “aspect ratio control”, you can switch to the desired window sizes with various aspect ratios as 21:9, 32:9 or even 4:3 format. Also, you can choose a pixel perfect 25W (2528×1512) or 27W (2884×1220) with high refresh rate.
Connectivity options
For connectivity there are DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) and HDMI 2.1 (included listed support for 4K 120Hz at 4:4:4 chroma where available from the console, HDMI-VRR and ALLM) included, along with some USB data ports. PiP amd PbP modes are supported to handle multiple inputs. There’s also a tripod socket on the top of the monitor and a remote control will also be bundled with the screen for easy control. The scren also includes 2x 5W built in speakers as well as a headphone jack.
Pricing and Availability
The PG38UQ is expected to be available in Q3 2023. More information on pricing when we get it.
