LG have released an interesting new screen in their UltraFine range, aimed at productivity, professional and general applications. It’s a large 40″ ultrawide screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio. It’s built around an LG.Display IPS Black LCD panel, offering a 5K2K resolution (5120 x 2160) and a range of modern features, connections and capabilities. It’s an alternative to Dell’s U4025QW monitor (which is available here) and there’s not a lot of competition in this niche right now.

LG 40WT95UF Specs

The screen is 40″ in size (precisely 39.7″) and offers a 21:9 aspect ratio, ultrawide format and is built around an LG.Display IPS Black LCD panel. It’s got a subtle 2500R curvature and offers a 5120 x 2160 “5K2K” resolution, offering a ~140 PPI pixel density. There’s a 5ms G2G response time spec, 2000:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering “95 – 99%” DCI-P3 according to the LG page available so far.

The screen is factory calibrated for accurate colour reproduction out of the box and supports hardware-level calibration, with support from LG’s Calibration Studio software. An Ambient Light Sensor automatically adjusts brightness and colour temperature based on surrounding lighting

The display has a 120Hz refresh rate, supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems including AMD FreeSync Premium certification. It’s also certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 600 tier, offering some edge-lit dimming capabilities and a peak brightness of >600 nits.

Press release positioning

“Professionals in finance and IT often struggle with the limitations of standard-format displays when handling large volumes of data or juggling multiple applications” the press release says. “The LG UltraFine 40WT95UF addresses these challenges with its large 40-inch screen and 21:9 aspect ratio, offering a generous digital workspace. The monitor’s expansive display, combined with its ultra-high resolution and array of helpful screen organization features, provides the visual precision and flexibility to help users work more efficiently and effectively.”

“Financial analysts can simultaneously view extensive datasets, application dashboards and market charts, while IT specialists – whether in software development, systems integration or media services – can utilize the extended screen space and advanced capabilities to review long lines of code, manage complex design timelines and conduct in-depth content analysis.”

A wide range of connectivity options including Thunderbolt 5

For connectivity there’s 2x Thunderbolt 5 (with video, data and 96W power delivery), 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR speed and capabilities not listed) and 2x HDMI video connections. A built-in KVM function allows control of multiple systems from a single connected keyboard and mouse setup. The screen also offers Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture functionality, giving users the multitasking benefits of a dual-monitor setup without taking up as much desk space.

There’s a USB-C upstream connection, 2x USB-A 3.2 downstream and 4x USB-C 3.2 downstream ports. There’s also an RJ45 Ethernet and a headphone out connection offered. There’s also 2x 10W integrated speakers and the stand offers tilt, height and swivel ergonomic adjustments.
