This display was very quietly announced back in mid January, and at the time there was very limited information about it that we could find online. It was listed on LG’s Japan website for upcoming 2025 monitors, and we then found some images on European news sites too where the screen was showcased at an event somewhere. Since then a product page has appeared on LG’s official Hong Kong regional website and so we now have more information, specs and images we can share.

The 27G850A is a new 27″ gaming monitor which will be the first in the World to offer a 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and 240Hz from an LCD panel. In fact, it’s an “IPS Black” panel with an enhanced 2000:1 contrast ratio, so even better. In fact, it goes a step even further than that as it offers a dual-mode function that allows you to run at 1080p and 480Hz instead if you prefer! That’s some impressive specs for an IPS monitor.

LG 27G850A Specs

The screen is 27″ in size and built around an LG.Display ‘Nano IPS Black’ panel. It offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution along with a native 240Hz refresh rate, the first time this combination has been available from an IPS panel in fact. A dual-mode function allows you to double your refresh rate to 480Hz if you rather, while dropping your resolution to 1080p. LG’s website says that this switches the screen size to 24″, although we expect you can also still play at full screen size at 1080p if you want.

The screen supports adaptive-sync for VRR and includes certification under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ , NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and VESA ‘AdaptiveSync’ schemes.

The panel has the usual 1ms G2G response time spec, and a contrast ratio of 2000:1. It also has a 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3. It supports hardware level calibration too which is something only LG seem to be widely offering on consumer monitors at the moment. It has a 450 nits typical brightness for SDR and a peak bright up to 670 nits it seems for HDR. The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.

Mid-tier HDR capabilities

The screen also supports some mid-tier HDR with basic edge-lit local dimming and certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 600 tier. This includes a peak brightness of >600 nits and wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3.

Connectivity includes DisplayPort 2.1

The connectivity options list 1x DisplayPort 2.1 which we believe to be UHBR13.5 speeds like on several of their other recent monitors (although it’s not specified), not sufficient to power the 4K 240Hz with an uncompressed video signal unfortunately. 2x HDMI and 1x USB data ports are also listed along with a 4-pole headphone jack which includes DTS Headphone:X sound.

Pricing and Availability

The screen is now listed on LG’s website and has started to appear in some regions on Amazon, including the US and UK. You can check pricing and availability for your region here (affiliate link).
