AOC have announced a new model in their AGON gaming series of screens. The AG344UXM is 34″ in size with an ultrawide format and an unusual flat screen. It’s based on an IPS technology panel with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and offers a range of modern specs for high-end HDR performance. This includes a Mini LED backlight with 1,152 local dimming zones and certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 scheme. It also boasts a high 170Hz refresh rate and adaptive-sync VRR support.

HDR1000 and Mini LED backlight
One of the key differentiators here is the use of a Mini LED backlight with an impressive 1,152 local dimming zones. This can help provide improved contrast ratios for HDR content, as well as support high peak brightness like 1000 nits+. The screen has been certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 scheme as a result, and will also include the necessary colour enhancements for that certification including 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, and 10-bit colour depth.

AOC AGON AG344UXM Specs
The screen is 34″ in size with an ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio. It is based on a flat format (not curved) IPS technology panel offering a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 1ms G2G quoted response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 600 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut with 97% DCI-P3 /140% sRGB coverage quoted. The screen also comes factory calibrated with a dE <2 listed. Note that some outlets may have reported the response time spec as 1ms MPRT, but we’ve had clarification from AOC that the actual spec is 1ms G2G here as we originally listed.
The screen also offers a high 170Hz refresh rate and supports adaptive-sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems. Certifications to be confirmed.

The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments. There are also some familiar AOC AGON features like Light FX RGB lighting, AGON logo projector, shadow control and other gaming settings in the OSD menu. Modern connectivity including DisplayPort 1.4, USB type-C (inc DP Alt mode and 90W power delivery) and 2x HDMI 2.1 (specs and features not listed at the moment) are expected. Additional USB ports, a KVM switch and 2x 8W speakers with DTS sound are also included.
The AG344UXM’s OSD settings can be adjusted using the wired remote (QuickSwitch), the 5-way joystick on the back, or the aforementioned G-Menu software. This lets users select – among other options – one of the 6 dedicated game modes, toggle settings such as AOC Game Color (saturation), Dial Point (crosshair overlay), FPS counter, or the LowBlue mode.
The AOC AGON PRO AG344UXM will be available in the UK from July 2022 at a MSRP of £1,429.99.
