The MSI MPG 321CURX QD-OLED is a New 32″ Curved Monitor with 4K and 240Hz
Ready to be showcased at this year’s Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany (from 21st Aug) is the new MSI MPG 321CURX. This continues the company’s heavy focus on OLED gaming monitors and will offer users a new curved 32″ option in this market. There’s been loads of flat 32″ OLED monitors released to market this year, including their own MSI’s MPG 321URX for instance that we reviewed back in June. So far there’s only been one curved option released, which is the Dell Alienware AW3225QF that we also reviewed in June. MSI are now looking to expand their range with a new curved 32″ model of their own.
Is a curved screen good at this size?
Whether or not you want a flat or a curved screen is largely down to personal taste. In the past we have found the aggressive curve of some 27″ and 32″ LCD monitors to be too much, for instance the Samsung Odyssey G7 series which had a steep 1000R curve. When we tested and reviewed the Dell Alienware AW3225QF we were actually pretty happy with the curve on that model. At 1700R it was fairly subtle, and it provided a slightly more comfortable viewing experience we felt for certain situations, especially for multimedia and gaming from up close. 32″ is a pretty large screen, and some people may prefer this subtle curve on this size.
MSI MPG 321CURX Specs
The new screen is 32″ in size (well, accurately 31.5″) and has a 1700R curvature. It’s built around a third generation Samsung Display QD-OLED panel and offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3 (as well as 138% sRGB and 98% Adobe RGB). The 240Hz native refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for variable refresh rates from compatible NVIDIA and AMD systems.
For HDR the screen offers a 1000 nits peak brightness spec (3% APL), and is certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black tier as with their existing MPG 321URX model.
For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and 98W power delivery) offered. PiP and PbP modes are supported along with a KVM switch. A headphone connection is also provided as well as 2x USB data ports. The stand offers a decent range of tilt, height, swivel adjustments, but there is no rotate function given the curved screen format.
The screen has the standard semi-glossy screen coating from the QD-OLED panel. Expect the usual comprehensive set of OLED Care 2.0 features as on their other OLED monitors, along with a decent warranty that includes burn-in cover. The screen also has a fan-less design thanks to its custom heatsink and graphene film panel, and supports user-updatable firmware and their Gaming Intelligence app.
Pricing and Availability
The MPG 321CURX QD-OLED will launch at Gamescom at an MSRP of 1,399EUR. We will bring you more information from the event and when we get it.
