The LG 39GX950B is the World First 39″ 5K2K OLED Monitor to be Announced

Ahead of CES in a couple of week’s time, LG Electronics have unveiled their line-up of new monitors that will be on show at the event. They also announced the global launch of their new premium gaming monitor brand, UltraGear evo™, set to debut at CES 2026. One of the new models being launched is the UltraGear 39GX950B, an eagerly anticipated 39″ ultrawide OLED monitor which offers a Tandem WOLED panel, a new more subtle 1500R curvature, a 5120 x 2160 “5K2K” resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. This offers a new higher pixel density in the 39″ ultrawide OLED market, along with a more subtle curvature compared with their old 3440 x 1440 resolution, 800R curvature models. We saw this panel teased recently by LG Display, but this is the first monitor to be formally announced using it.

LG 39GX950B Specs
The screen is 39″ in size with a 21:9 ultrawide format and a 1500R curvature. It’s nice to see that LG have listened to user feedback about wanting a more gentle curve on these ultrawide OLED monitors.
It offers a 5120 x 2160 “5K2K” resolution which delivers a ~142 PPI pixel density, roughly the same as a 31.5″ 4K OLED monitor. It’s is built around a 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panel, now formally referred to as “Tandem WOLED” by the panel manufacturer LG Display. Note that this will feature the normal RGWB sub-pixel layout as opposed to a true RGB-stripe like the new 27″ WOLED panel will offer – although no monitors are yet announced featuring that panel. With a high pixel density here, the text clarity should be very good regardless, like it is on the 32″ 4K WOLED panels with the same RGWB layout.

There’s a 0.03ms G2G response time, 165Hz native refresh rate and a dual-mode function which allows a higher 330Hz at a lower 2560 x 1080 resolution for certain gaming situations. The screen retains the vertical height of a 32″ screen while expanding horizontal immersion for both gaming and multitasking.
For HDR the screen is certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black tier and offers a wide colour gamut with 99.5% DCI-P3 coverage. More specs are still to be provided. For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (now supporting full-speed UHBR20, unlike the previous UHBR13.5 on the LG 45GX950A), 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and 90W power delivery) available.
LG UltraGear Evo

Building on LG’s established leadership in 5K and 5K2K gaming displays, UltraGear evo expands the boundaries of high-resolution gaming with a portfolio of 5K-and-above monitors spanning OLED, New MiniLED and ultra-wide formats, combining ultra-high definition, speed and immersion across multiple form factors.
As the press release says, “at the heart of this evolution is LG’s commitment to uncompromised image quality, reinforced by a newly introduced on-device AI solution. This proprietary technology powers the world’s first 5K AI Upscaling technology (available on some of their new models). This technology achieves stunning 5K-class clarity without the burden of GPU upgrades and allows gamers to enjoy a wider range of content in high definition – transcending original resolution limits.”
The 39GX950B includes this new on-device AI solution, and according to LG the monitor “analyzes and enhances content in real time before it reaches the panel, delivering stunning 5K-class clarity without requiring GPU upgrades. This goes beyond resolution, incorporating AI Scene Optimization and AI Sound, to refine images and audio performance for a more immersive audio visual experience.”
