Red Magic 4K Gaming Monitor Announced with 5088-zone Mini LED Backlight
Red Magic are not a brand we are that familiar with, but they have this week announced a couple of interesting new monitors which are worth a mention. The flagship model announced is their “5088miniLED 4K Gaming monitor” – or at least that’s what the product name appears to be! They unveiled this with some information on their Weibo account, but the screen is 27″ in size and has a 4K resolution, 160Hz refresh rate and a high-end Mini LED backlight with a reported 5088 local dimming zones (or “partitions” as they put it).
Red Magic 5088miniLED 4K Gaming monitor Specs
The new screen is 27″ in size and built around an AU Optronics Fast IPS panel. It has a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, and a wide colour gamut covering 99% of the DCI-P3 and 99% of the Adobe RGB colour spaces. It has also been factory calibrated with a dE < 1 listed. It has a 160Hz refresh rate as well, supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible AMD and NVIDIA systems. The screen includes DisplayPort, USB type-C and 2x HDMI video interfaces along with some USB data ports.
5088-zone Mini LED backlight
Headlining the spec and announcement is the 5088-zone Mini LED backlight that the screen will feature, providing a high density of local dimming zones for improved HDR performance, reduced blooming and excellent content control. This also allows for a very high peak brightness, with 2200 nits mentioned in the manufacturer’s content. This also allows it to conform to the VESA DisplayHDR 1400 certification tier as well.
Also of note – a new 49″ QD-OLED monitor
Also worth mentioning was their forthcoming 49″ super ultrawide QD-OLED monitor, which will feature a 240Hz refresh rate and specs in line with other competing screens of this size, like a 0.03ms G2G response time. It’s built around the same Samsung Display QD-OLED panel as the Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC we’ve tested. It has 2x 5W speakers built in along with a mic input. There’s DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 and USB type-C connections provided (with 90W power delivery).
More information on specs, availability and pricing when we get it for both models.
