It was all the way back in June 2015 when the prototype of Asus’ very popular 34″ Ultrawide 100Hz IPS gaming screen was announced. The ROG Swift PG348Q was then reviewed by us in March 2016 as one of the earliest high refresh rate ultrawide models. It featured an older 60Hz native IPS panel from LG.Display that was successfully overclocked all the way up to 100Hz thanks to the presence of an added NVIDIA G-sync module. This produced an excellent screen for gaming, with a 3440 x 1440 resolution, variable refresh rate support (G-sync), improved response times and a low lag. It’s remained popular ever since.

Asus have now announced the forthcoming release of the successor to that model, their new ROG Swift PG349Q. (Thank you Asus for keeping consistent and easy to remember monitor model names!) Much of the design and spec remains the same as the older model but this time a 100Hz native IPS panel has been incorporated, now offering an overclock up to 120Hz. This should result in a more stable performance at the higher refresh rate end, where some users had trouble reaching 90 – 100Hz on the older model. It will of course also offer the capability to boost that another 20Hz for many users up to 120Hz. NVIDIA G-sync is supported with a range of 30 – 120Hz.

The 3440 x 1440 resolution remains, and the screen has a 1900R curvature. In other specs there is a 4ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and standard sRGB gamut. The screen is flicker free and a range of low blue light modes are also included for eye care.

Asus have moved to a black bezel design for the new model and there is also some new design on the back of the screen, including their Aura-Sync RGB LED lighting feature in the shape of the ROG logo. The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments still and there are connections for DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4 and 2x USB 3.0. Integrated 2x 2W speakers and a headphone jack are also provided.

No word on price or release date yet but we will update this news piece when we have more information.
