ASRock PG558K Showcased with 55″ IPS Panel and 8K Resolution

Some initial details of this screen were unveiled a few days ago at the start of the Computex week, but we now have more information about the new ASRock PG558KF display. This is a massive 55″ sized display, not something you could really call a “monitor”, but sits within ASRock’s Phantom Gaming brand and aimed at PC and console gaming. The very large display is based on an IPS-type technology panel apparently, and offers a whopping 7680 x 4320 “8K” resolution. It’s this high pixel density that is likely to attract the most interest from potential buyers.

ASRock PG558KF Specs

The screen is 55″ in size and has a flat format and 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a 7680 x 4320 “8K” resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate (even powering 8K @ 60Hz is going to be a challenge!), 1200:1 contrast ratio, 750 nits typical brightness and 178/178 viewing angles.

The screen is promoted as supporting HDR 1000, presumably implying certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 scheme. This will include a peak brightness in HDR of >1000 nits. While not listed in their spec at Computex, we would expect a wide colour gamut with >90% DCI-P3 and 10-bit colour depth support. The backlight has a moderate 252 local dimming zones, helping with HDR performance to a degree.

Connectivity options

For connectivity the screen offers 2x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1 (capabilities not listed) and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and 90W power delivery). There are also 4x USB data ports and a headphone jack provided, as well as 2 x 10W integrated speakers.

Pricing and Availability

This is not confirmed at the moment. More details on pricing, release dates and other specs when we get them.
