Acer Predator X27 P with Minor Updates Now Supporting VRR Over HDMI

Acer appear to be making a minor update to their high-end Predator X27 display, with the arrival in Taiwan at least of the new X27 P model. The X27 was one of the first 27″ monitors with 4K and 144Hz, their equivalent to the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ that we reviewed last year. The updated X27 P looks largely similar in specs and features, and unlike Asus’ planned update to the PG27UQ with the PG27UQX, does not appear to be moving to a backlight with more dimming zones than the original. There are a couple of updates though.

The only updates seem to be the addition of Variable Refresh Rate support over HDMI, something that was not offered on the original X27 or indeed on the Asus PG27UQ. It’s unclear in which situations that will work given the use of a G-sync module, and whether it will support things like modern games consoles. They’ve also “rectified the G-sync naming scheme to NVIDIA G-sync Ultimate”.

The screen still offers a 27″ IPS panel with 3840 x 2160 resolution, 4ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 600 cd/m2 brightness, 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness (HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and 99% Adobe RGB colour gamut (via Quantum Dot coating). It has a 144Hz maximum refresh rate, supported by NVIDIA G-sync Ultimate meaning that it uses a traditional G-sync hardware module. It is certified to the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard and has a 384-zone FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) backlight.

The screen also comes factory calibrated with a dE <1. DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 connections are provided along with 4x USB 3.0 and an audio out. There is also an included light sheild/hood and 2x 4W speakers. A full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments are offered by the stand.
