The First HDMI 2.2 Ultra96 Certified Cables Arrive, Ready for Future Devices
Disclaimer: this article includes sponsored promotion of Silkland’s H96 series cables, but all content, opinions and commentary are our own as always

While mainstream HDMI 2.2 devices are yet to reach the market, the spec was formally defined by the HDMI org back in June 2025 and we’re now starting to see some of the first certified cables appear. HDMI 2.2 is a future iteration of the HDMI connection, offering the potential for higher bandwidths, up to double the current limit of the HDMI 2.1 spec, reaching up to 96Gbps. This allows for support for higher spec devices and displays in the future where needed. Adoption of the HDMI 2.2 standard will come in time, but one of the first steps with these updated interfaces is always availability of cabling.

Silkland H96 series cables
Silkland have recently launched their new H96 series cables ready for future devices, while also being fully backwards compatible with all existing HDMI devices. If you’re looking for a new HDMI cable, it could be worthwhile considering an HDMI 2.2 certified option to make yourself future proof. The Silkland H96 series offers:
- Certified support for up to 96 Gbps bandwidths, the top speed tier for HDMI 2.2 under the “Ultra96” cable branding
- A passive cable design with no need for repeaters or any active components
- Cable lengths available up to 3m at the moment, with longer lengths expected soon
- Support for lossless, full-chroma formats such as 8K @ 60Hz/4:4:4 and 4K @ 240Hz/4:4:4; and ultra-high refresh rates like 16K @ 60Hz and 12K @ 120Hz through advanced compression, far surpassing HDMI 2.1 capabilities. For more information on potential future specs supported via HDMI 2.2 bandwidths, see our detailed article here.
- Support for the full suite of HDMI features such as VRR, ALLM, eARC sound and QMS.
- Features an aluminium alloy housing, a dual-layer nylon-braided cable jacket, and a unique connector design for durability over time.
- fully backwards compatible with existing HDMI devices (including HDMI 1.4, 2.0 and 2.1).

Simple verification process
The new Ultra96 cables will also be a part of the HDMI Cable Certification Program which requires each length of a cable offered by a company to be tested in order to carry the certification badge, which gives consumers added assurance that the cable will work properly. Not only will that test for bandwidth compatibility but it will also be tested and certified to ensure low EMI, to reduce the possibility of interference with wireless networks, streaming media players, Bluetooth devices and mobile phones.

Along with the approved branding on the cables and packaging, one useful feature being implemented with these new cables is a quick and easy way to verify that certification has been achieved. A quick scan of the QR code on the packet will take you to the HDMI org verification page which confirms the certification status and speed tier. That’s useful for ensuring the cables you buy are actually properly certified and compatible.
