The Philips 36M4C5500P is the World’s First 36” Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

Philips have recently unveiled the world’s first 36” ultrawide gaming monitor. The 36M4C5500P, part of their mid-tier Evnia 5000 series, will feature a ‘Fast VA’ panel with a 1500R curvature, a 3440 x 1440 resolution and a native 240Hz refresh rate which can be overclocked a little further to 260Hz if you need.
This could provide an interesting alternative if you want something a bit larger than a 34” display for more immersion, but don’t want to venture into the realm of the larger 39 – 45″ segment. Whether this is an untapped size niche in the monitor market which we see more brands adopt in the future, or a one hit wonder, remains to be seen.
Philips 36M4C5500P specs

This is a 36” sized screen with a 1500R curvature and is built around a ‘Fast VA’ LCD technology panel. It will also offer a WQHD (3440 x 1440) resolution, 104 PPI pixel density, 21:9 aspect ratio, 1ms G2G response time (0.3ms MPRT), 4000:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 126% of the sRGB, 91% of the Adobe RGB and 95% of the DCI-P3 colour spaces. It also offers a factory calibrated Delta E<2 colour accuracy.
There are limited HDR capabilities on offer here with certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 tier and a peak brightness spec of only 500 nits.

The 240/260Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems, whilst Smart MBR Sync functionality is also on hand to reduce motion blur and screen tearing simultaneously. Other gaming features include Low Input Lag, Smart Crosshair, Stark Shadow Boost, Smart Sniper, Smart Contrast and HDR Tone Mapping. In addition, the Evnia Precision Centre software allows you to customise the monitor to meet your gaming needs.

The stand offers a range of tilt, height and swivel adjustments and user comfort is further enhanced thanks to the use of Low Blue Mode and Flicker-free technologies to reduce eye strain and fatigue. The monitor design also incorporates the new Evnia AI gaming “Iconglow” RGB lighting on the rear of the panel, which can be customised to suit your gaming set-up.
Connectivity

Connectivity options include 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2xHDMI 2.1 and a headphone jack. It also features MultiView technology which allows the user to work with multiple devices simultaneously using PiP/PbP modes.
Availability and pricing
The Philips 36M4C5500P is set to initially launch in Asia with official details on pricing or a wider rollout not yet known.
