Asus Announce the ROG Strix XG27AQWMG with 4th Gen WOLED Panel and True Black Glossy Coating

At Gamescom 2025 today Asus have announced the brand new ROG Strix XG27AQWMG. This is a new 27″ OLED screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 280Hz refresh rate. Modest specs you might think, but there’s two very exciting things about this new model! Firstly it’s using LG.Display’s new 4th Gen ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ WOLED technology panel, promising improvements in brightness, colour and black depth. We’ve seen a couple of monitors announced previously from Gigabyte and LG using this same new panel, but the other exciting thing about Asus’ new screen is that they’ve also combined this panel with their new True Black glossy panel coating.
- We’ve already had chance to fully test this screen ahead of the announcement, so we can bring you a day 1 review already! You can find that here.

True Black glossy coating

The new coating was first unveiled in May at Computex where a couple of 32″ 4K panels were on show. Asus have now adopted this same coating for this new ROG Strix XG27AQWMG. It offers a zero-haze finish to help remove the minor grain visible on first-gen glossy WOLED panels from last year, as well as improvements to black depth in various ambient lighting conditions and reflection handling. You can find out how this coating performs and how it compares to the previous glossy WOLED, to matte WOLED and to QD-OLED in our full review.
Asus ROG Strix XG27AQWMG Specs

The new screen is 26.5″ in size (27″ class) with a flat format. It has a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time, 335 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99.5% DCI-P3. It has a 280Hz refresh rate with adaptive-sync to support variable refresh rates. For HDR the screen meets the VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black tier, and includes a 1500 nits peak brightness spec.
Asus have added a wide range of additional features including ELMB (BFI) for motion blur reduction, VRR Anti-flicker modes, a massive selection of OLED Care Pro features and their Neo Proximity Sensor too.
