MSI Release the MPG 322URX with a 32″ 4K 240Hz QD-OLED Panel, but Now with DisplayPort 2.1

MSI China have released information for the new MPG 322URX on their website recently, a screen which is basically an update to the existing MPG 321URX model that we’ve previously reviewed. It’s got the same 32″ QD-OLED panel from Samsung’s 3rd generation technology, the same 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, but this time MSI have updated a couple of the connections. Most notable is the addition of proper DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity, with the full UHBR20 (80Gbps) bandwidth. They’ve also updated the power delivery of the USB type-C connection slightly, from 90W to 98W.
DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity now included
MSI have added a proper DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 (80Gbps) connection to this new screen, which allows those with compatible graphics card to power the screen at 4K 240Hz without needing to use Display Stream Compression (DSC). Although you need to keep in mind that support for DP 2.1 UHBR20 is very limited at the moment, with only professional-grade AMD cards even offering it. No consumer-grade cards support this full speed yet. NVIDIA so far do not have any graphics cards officially announced with DP 2.1 of any type. Although CES is coming up next month so we could well see things change there in the graphics card segment.
With DP 2.1 UHBR20 available on this monitor, as and when you have a compatible graphics card, you will be able to bypass DSC for an uncompressed video signal. This won’t provide any visual benefits over current DP 1.4 + DSC approaches since DSC is visually lossless anyway, but it will in theory help avoid annoying DSC bugs like slow Alt + tabbing from games, black outs and challenges with multi-monitor setups.

MSI MPG 322URX Specs
Spec wise the new screen is 32″ in size (accurately 31.5″) with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution QD-OLED panel. It has a flat format and the standard semi-glossy screen coating from this panel technology. There is a 0.03ms G2G response time spec, 250 nits typical brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3 and 98% Adobe RGB.

The 240Hz native refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems. HDR offers a VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification and 1000 nits peak brightness spec as per their older model.
For connectivity there is 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20 80Gbps), 1x USB type-C (With DP Alt mode and 98W power delivery) and 2x HDMI 2.1 connections available for video. There’s also 2x USB data ports and a headphone connection. The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.

It features a custom heatsink to avoid the need for a cooling fan and is backed by the company’s 3 year warranty which includes burn-in cover.
Pricing and availability
The screen has only appeared so far on MSI’s China site at 8499 RMB (around $1,170 USD) but we expect it to be released in other regions soon. More info on pricing and launch dates when we get it.
