Introduction

It wasn’t only about their gaming ROG series at CES this year, Asus also showcased their latest models in their professionally focused ProArt series that will be interesting to those looking for high-end colour accurate displays for professional applications and content creation. This is the first time we’ve had chance to see them in person – there’s the ProArt OLED PA32UCDMR-K, a 31.5″ QD-OLED display with a 4K resolution, and the ProArt OLED PA279CDV, a 26.5″ QD-OLED display, also with 4K resolution. Both are aimed at professional users, content creation and have a focus on productivity and colour accuracy.

ProArt PA2UCDMR-K offers a 31.5″ 4K QD-OLED panel

First up is the ProArt OLED PA2UCDMR-K, a professional monitor which features a 31.5″ screen built around a QD-OLED display. It offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution which delivers a 140 PPI pixel density, along with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.1ms quoted G2G response time spec. This model is packed with lots of other features to enhance accuracy, connectivity and user experience for other uses.

The screen has a peak brightness of 1000 nits for HDR and meets the VESA DisplayHDR 400 TrueBlack certification tier. It also offers also a wide colour gamut with 99% DCI-P3 coverage and 10-bit colour depth. The screen also comes factory calibrated with a dE <1 and Asus’s ProArt Hardware calibration technology for exceptional colour accuracy and control.

Thanks to the OLED panel there is near-instant response times, per pixel dimming for exceptional HDR performance, true blacks and a near-infinite contrast ratio. There is support for multiple HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HLG and HDR10 to support your HDR content creation needs.

It provides users with extensive connectivity options, including including dual Thunderbolt 4 with up to 96W power delivery, a daisy-chain function, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and a built in USB A and C hub. The screen allows tilt, pivot and height adjustments.

Hardware calibration and a bundled colorimeter

This model comes with a provided shading hood and a bundled ProArt CalContrO MCA02 3-in-1 colorimeter for hardware calibrating the display. It’s also certified as ‘Calman Ready’ for a dedicated calibration workflow from Portrait Display’s high-end calibration software.

The ProArt CaliContrO was designed to help graphics professionals and creators meet strict deadlines while working on a single project across multiple devices. This colorimeter is a powerful, sophisticated tool designed to improve the workflow of both software applications and your system hardware. On the software side, you can adjust colors using your ProArt Calibration software to generate a unique ICC profile. The color management information stored in that file can be used by your PC’s operating system and other applications to ensure consistent color output from one device to the next. Your ICC Profile ensures that colors you fine-tuned in your project using the ProArt PA32UCDMR-K are true to life and match your intended output every time, whatever display you show them on next.

To make colour grading easier on the hardware side, the CaliContrO MCA02 works seamlessly with ASUS ProArt Calibration software to let you fine tune the ProArt PA32UCDMR-K display’s output and even rewrite the 3D Look-up Table. Then the CaliContrO writes back and saves colour parameter profiles on the ProArt PA32UCDMR-K’s internal scaler IC chip, rather than the PC. This method lets you connect the display to devices that use different operating systems or applications without the hassle of adjusting the settings. The saved profiles can easily be activated via hotkey on the monitor.

The ProArt CaliContrO also offers On-Screen Display (OSD) control, an ASUS Dial, and Microsoft Surface integration, which includes 5-way navigator and 5 button shortcut keys for easy screen control. More info on this device can be found on Asus’ product page here.

ProArt PA27UCDMR-K offers a 27″ 4K QD-OLED panel

Second up from the line-up is the ProArt OLED PA279CDV which is a smaller model at 26.5″ (27″ class) in size, but still offers the same 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and QD-OLED panel along with a 120Hz refresh rate. The 4K resolution on this model provides an even higher 166 PPI pixel density for a super-sharp and crisp image.

This year Asus say they have  added new features to help creative professionals like filmmakers, architects, designers, and AI specialists maintain accurate colour output with visuals that stay consistent, even when teams collaborate across multiple screens.

LuxPixel for comfortable, glare-free viewing

The panel sees the inclusion of LuxPixel technology which features a AGLR screen coating which creates a “paper like” effect that minimizes distracting reflections and glare even in well-lit rooms. “Long reading sessions on the screen become as easy and comfortable as hours spent curled up with a paperback novel. The AGLR coating also absorbs glare, which saves your eyes from overwork during long coding or editing sessions” Asus say.

“Another advantage of the LuxPixel coating becomes obvious in bright environments. The AGLR minimizes distracting reflections on your images. The resulting combination of razor-sharp image detail and comfortable viewing helps you maintain deep focus during periods of extended use in any environment.”

This 27″ model features the same peak brightness as the 32″ model of 1000 nits for HDR and meets the same VESA DisplayHDR 400 TrueBlack certification tier. It supports only the HDR10 format, not Dolby Vision and HLG like the 32″ model offers.

It also offers also a wide colour gamut with 99% DCI-P3 coverage and 10-bit colour depth whilst the screen is also designed to be colour-accurate and includes factory calibration which has been ‘Calman Verified’, including a dE <2. There’s no hardware calibration support or bundled shading hood / colorimeter with this model though.

Connectivity options include HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 DSC with daisy-chaining, USB Type-C (with 96W power delivery) and a USB Hub. The ProArt PA279CDV’s built-in Auto KVM delivers extra convenience for multi-device users. If you have your desktop PC running but want to switch quickly to your laptop, the Auto KVM offers instant, effortless switching between the devices using one keyboard and mouse.
