MSI have announced a further gaming monitor in their MAG series which we understand is set to launch globally later this year. The MSI MAG 272UP QD-OLED X24 features a flat format, 26.5” sized screen (27″ class), built around a 4th Gen Samsung Display QD-OLED panel, that offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. This monitor is an alternative to the MSI MPG 272URX which we reviewed in April with an expected a lower price point owing to a few less features which are covered below.

MSI MAG 272UP QD-OLED X24 Specs

The screen is 26.5” in size (27” class) with a flat format. It offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, ~166 PPI, with a rapid response time spec of 0.03ms G2G, a 240Hz refresh rate, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits SDR brightness and 178/178 viewing angles. It has a native 10-bit colour depth and supports a wide colour gamut covering 138% of the sRGB, 98% of the Adobe RGB and 99% of the DCI-P3 colour spaces. It offers a factory calibration with Delta E<2 accuracy.

The 240Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR. It is also VESA ClearMR 13000 certified for motion clarity performance. Gaming features include Game Assistance, AI Vision, Smart Crosshair and Optix Scope and the Anti-Flicker and Less Blue Light technologies provide a comfortable viewing experience.

For HDR it is certified under the VESA ‘DisplayHDR 400 True Black’ tier and offers a peak brightness of 1000 nits (3% APL) for HDR.

The screen comes with a 3-year warranty which includes burn-in cover, and includes the company’s OLED Care 2.0 feature set and a Custom Heatsink for a fan-less design. The stand offers tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.

Connectivity

For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.1 ports. There’s also 1x USB Type-C port (with DP Alt Mode and 15W power delivery) and 1x headphone jack. There are no USB data ports on this MAG model.

This is one area where the screen is different to the MPG 272URX version. That model has 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) instead of the DP 1.4 connection used here. It also has a higher 98W power delivery on the USB-C port and includes 2x USB data ports as well. Note that both models do support firmware updates. You can read a lot more about DisplayPort 2.1 to help you decide if that will be important to you or not in our recent article here.

Pricing and availability

This screen is currently only available in China, but we are expecting it to appear globally in the not too distant future so watch this space for further updates.
