LG UltraGear 32GX850A Unveiled with a Glossy 32″ 4K 165 Hz WOLED Panel and Dual-Mode Support

LG have revealed a further display in their UltraGear gaming series to feature a glossy screen coating. The 32GX850A is only the second monitor offered by LG Electronics to feature a native glossy screen coating for the LG.Display WOLED panel, the first being the 27″ 1440p 240Hz LG 27GX704A-B which we previously brought you news of last month. The 32GX850A is a 31.5″ sized screen built around a 3rd Gen WOLED panel featuring a “4K” 3840 x 2160 resolution and a native 165Hz refresh rate. In addition it offers a dual-mode function allowing you to double your refresh rate to 330Hz when dropping to a lower FHD 1080p resolution.
LG UltraGear 32GX850A Specs

The screen is 32″ in size (31.5″ accurately) with a flat format and a 3rd Gen LG.Display WOLED panel. It boasts a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 140 PPI pixel density, 0.03ms G2G response time spec, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 178/178 viewing angles, 275 nits brightness (SDR), 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 98.5% of the DCI-P3 colour space. It also offers a factory calibrated Delta E<2 accuracy too.
Glossy screen coating
The screen features a glossy coating finish that LG Electronics refer to as “glare”, a break from their normal matte anti-glare coating options. This is a glossy coating applied at the factory by the panel manufacturer LG.Display, and something we’ve seen already recently adopted by Asus for their 32″ 4K 240Hz ROG Strix XG32UCWMG (recently reviewed) and 32″ 4K 165Hz XG32UCWG, the latter of which is the equivalent to this 165Hz model from LG Electronics.
Other gaming and HDR specs

The native 165Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems and has been certified under the NVIDIA ‘G-sync compatible’ and ‘AMD FreeSync Premium’ schemes. It also has VESA ClearMR 13000 certification. For HDR the screen has been certified under the VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 tier, and includes a peak brightness spec of 1300 nits.
It includes all the normal LG gaming features you would expect to see, such as FPS Counter, Dynamic Action Sync, Black Stabiliser and Crosshair. There is also an LG Switch app function which converts your screen into a hub for work, gaming and streaming. It also allows you to customise various settings such as image quality and brightness, then apply these settings with a hotkey depending on what’s on the screen. Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies are also included to ensure user comfort throughout your gaming sessions.

The stand provides a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments, and features hexagonal backlighting on the back of the screen too.

Connectivity

For connectivity there is 1x DisplayPort 1.4 input with DSC, 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports, 2x USB 3.0 Type-A ports and a headphone jack.
Availability and pricing
This screen is currently only available in certain regions at the moment including Asia and the Netherlands but we are expecting it to reach US and UK markets in the not too distant future.
