Asus ROG Swift PG279QR and QE with 165Hz Refresh Rate and G-sync

Asus have recently announced two updates to the very popular PG279Q IPS gaming display, which was one of the original high refresh rate IPS panels released to market. The updates will come in two varieties, the PG279QR and the PG279QE, basically separated by their appearance and added lighting features. Both have refresh rate support for 165Hz and NVIDIA G-sync and continue to be aimed at gaming as part of Asus’ ROG brand.

The PG279QR (R model) adds some further ROG lighting options that have been used on more recent models like the PG27UQ for instance. This R model now includes their Aura Sync RGB LED lighting and a tripod stand design with ‘light signature’ projector. The back of the screen has a more “busy” textured appearance as well. The stand is a silver colour with copper trim in places.

The PG279QE (E model) is a little more basic in design, with a simpler stand and without the added light features and looks more like the original PG279Q in appearance. The back of the screen is simpler and has a matte black finish, along with the stand.

Both models are based on a 27″ IPS panel offering a 2560 x 1440 resolution, 4ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and standard sRGB colour gamut. A 165Hz refresh rate is supported on these models and they feature a traditional NVIDIA G-sync module for variable refresh rates.

Both models offer DisplayPort 1.2a, HDMI 1.4 and 2x USB 3.0 ports, along with a headphone jack. 2x 2W speakers are also integrated in to the screen. A full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments are offered from the stand.

No word on release date or pricing yet.
