The Latest LG 42C5 OLED TV Launched with 42″ 4K OLED Panel and 144Hz Refresh Rate

The 42″ sized OLED TV’s remain a popular choice for those who want a hybrid desktop and TV display, and LG are soon to launch their latest C-series model. This year it’s the C5, with sizes of 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″ and 83″ also available if you want something even larger. There’s not been any major changes in the panel or specs since the 42″ models first appeared with the C2 back in 2022, but the 42C5 has various incremental updates and improvements at least. It still offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, and the refresh rate is 144Hz like it was last year for the C4. It does include their latest Alpha 9 AI Processor Gen8 which provides smooth, crisp picture and sound with AI Picture Pro and AI Super Upscaling.

LG 42C5 Specs
Traditional panel specs are actually pretty vague from LG’s website, but the screen is 42.1″ in size with a flat format and 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution. It’s built around an LG.Display WOLED panel and this offers a <0.1ms G2G response time and has a wide colour gamut. The panel has a native 120Hz refresh rate, but supports up to 144Hz for VRR situations from a PC – with modern consoles limited to 120Hz themselves anyway.

Unfortunately none of the new C5 series feature LG.Display’s latest ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ Gen 4 panels, they remain Gen 3 at this time. Those new Gen 4 panels are reserved for their flagship G5 and M5 ranges.
Other features and connections
Multiple HDR formats are supported with HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG offered. There’s a wide range of Smart TV functions, apps, preset modes and image optimisation functions available too as it’s primarily a TV, not a desktop monitor. The screen has built-in 2.0 channel speakers and supports Dolby Atmos sound as well. There’s a headphone connection too.

For connectivity there are 4x HDMI 2.1 connections with HDMI-VRR and ALLM. One of these supports eARC sound as well. As it’s a TV, there’s unfortunately no DisplayPort connection offered or any PC USB data ports either, only 3x USB ports for viewing photos/videos etc. The stand doesn’t provide any functionality at all, so you will need to wall or arm mount it if you want more flexibility there.
Pricing and availability
The LG 42C5 is available to pre-order now from LG.com at a price of $1,399.99 USD. It’s available from some other leading retailers for pre-order too, and you can check latest availability and pricing here. If you are after one of their larger models in the C5 series you can find those on LG.com here.
With the C5 being released soon, you may be able to bag yourself a bargain on last years C4 model before that goes end of sale, check out latest pricing and availability here for the C4.
