Acer yesterday announced new additions across its growing Predator line of gaming products at the annual next@acer global press conference in New York. In the display space they announced a new 43″ sized display, the CG437K P, which Acer dub a “Large Format Gaming Display” (LFGD). Not quite as “Big” then as their 65″ “Big Format Gaming Displays” (Acer Predator BFGD) that was showcased at CES over a year ago, but a large format nonetheless. It is designed for hardcore PC and console gaming enthusiasts.

The CG437K P features a 3840 x 2160 UltraHD resolution and fast 144Hz refresh rate. The monitor’s AdaptiveSync feature adapts to the frame rate of the outputting device, resulting in uninterrupted gameplay so users can concentrate on the task at hand. This means the screen can support both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-sync. It remains to be seen whether it will be formally certified under the ‘G-Sync Compatible’ scheme from NVIDIA.

The screen is based on a VA technology panel and HDR is certainly a focus within the press release. It is certified to VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standards, offering 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness, 10-bit colour depth support, 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut and importantly some form of local dimming (a requirement under this certification). Given the expected retail price, we believe this will use some form of edge-lit local dimming as opposed to any FALD method.

The Predator CG437K P features power saving technologies, such as a light sensor that can detect the light level in the room and automatically adjusts brightness for comfortable viewing, and a proximity sensor, so as viewers move to the front of the monitor it will automatically wake up from standby mode, or revert to sleep mode when there is no movement in the room. It also includes a remote control, making it convenient for living room use.

Connectivity wise there are 3x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort and 1x USB type-C interfaces provided. There are also 2x USB 3.0 and 2x USB 2.0 ports.

The Predator CG437K P gaming monitor is expected to be available in North America in September, starting at USD $1,299.00; in EMEA in September, starting at EUR 1,499.00. It is expected to be available in China slightly earlier in August.

Full spec and details are not provided at this time but we will update this news piece when we get more info.
