MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M with a 27″ 4K 160Hz / FHD 320Hz Dual-Mode IPS Panel and Mini LED Backlight
Originally published 2 January 2025, last updated 27 May 2025

Back in January for CES, MSI announced their new MPG 274URDFW E16M gaming monitor and we’ve now had chance to get further information and specs at Computex 2025 in May. This is a 27″ sized screen built around a ‘Rapid IPS’ LCD panel and offers a Dual-mode feature allowing you to quickly and easily switch between the native 4K 160Hz operation, or a 1080p 320Hz mode for higher frame rates and faster gaming. The screen also features an impressive 1152-zone Mini LED backlight which allows for certification under the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 tier.

MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M Specs
The new screen is 27″ in size and built around a flat format LG.Display IPS panel. It has a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution with a 160Hz native refresh rate, or you can use the panels dual-mode feature to drop the resolution to 1080p if you want, and boost the refresh rate up to 320Hz. We’ve seen this technology on a few OLED monitors so far, and it’s becoming more of a thing in the LCD space now too.

In other specs there is a 0.5ms G2G response time spec (take this with a pinch of salt on an LCD panel), and wide colour gamut covering 98% DCI-P3 / 100% Adobe RGB and ~140% sRGB coverage. The screen supports adaptive-sync for VRR and will be certified under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium’ and VESA ‘AdaptiveSync’ schemes.
1152-zone Mini LED backlight

This screen also offers some impressive HDR capabilities in the LCD space thanks to a 1152-zone Mini LED backlight. This should allow excellent local dimming capabilities for this kind of panel, and it has allowed the screen to achieve the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification which includes a peak brightness of >1000 nits.
Pricing and availability
We saw this model back at CES in January as well, but it’s now in mass production and should be released in July at an RRP of $499 USD which is attractive given the high end spec here. You can check out all the MSI Computex 2025 news and information here.
