Dell have today announced their new AW2725D monitor, somewhat a follow on from their AW2725DF that we reviewed from last year, although this time actually with a lower refresh rate but a cheaper target price point. the AW2725D is a flat format 27″ sized screen, with a QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display, a 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 280Hz refresh rate. Last year’s AW2725DF model had a higher 360Hz refresh rate. With a lower refresh rate on offer here, this will be Dell Alienware’s most affordable QD-OLED monitor to date.

Dell Alienware AW2725D Specs

Limited specs are provided at the moment for this new model. The new screen is 26.5″ in size (27″ class) and has a flat format. It offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution and 280Hz refresh rate. This looks like it will be using a Gen 3 Samsung Display QD-OLED panel from last year, perhaps an overclock of the already available 240Hz refresh rate module that is used on some other monitors already. This won’t be a 2025 Gen 4 technology panel though as far as we know, as those are only available in two new, high-end 27″ variants.

Other expected specs

Other specs are not yet provided, but we expect it will offer a 0.03ms G2G response time, 250 nits typical brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, a 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering ~99% DCI-P3. It will almost certainly have a 1000 nits peak brightness (3% APL) spec for HDR and also be certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black tier.

We would expect certifications under the NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ schemes for VRR as well. For connectivity there is likely to be DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) and HDMI 2.1 provided along with some USB data ports and a fully adjustable stand. We will provide an update one official specs and details are revealed by Dell.

Pricing and availability

The AW2725D will be released some time in the summer apparently at a price of $549.99 USD. Last year’s AW2725DF model (with 360Hz refresh rate) still retails for $899.99 USD at the moment, so there is a considerable saving with this new model – although pricing for the DF model could of course come down too by the time this is released.
