AU Optronics Announce The World’s First 24″ 800Hz Refresh Rate Monitor Panel

AU Optronics, one of the leading LCD panel manufacturers, have announced this week that they have developed what they say is the world’s first 24″ sized 1080p resolution 800Hz refresh rate gaming monitor panel. Very little information was announced ahead of the Touch Taiwan 2026 event other than those limited specs but we would assume this to be the latest update to their 24″ TN Film panels which have been pushing 500Hz and above refresh rates for a while now. For instance the most recent 600Hz panel has been used in various recent esports gaming monitors like the Asus ROG Strix XG248QSG Ace for instance which reached 610Hz maximum. If this is the case, this new updated panel will continue to push refresh rates for that still fairly popular esports segment in a ~24″ screen size. It remains to be seen which monitor manufacturers will adopt this updated panel and when.

We’ve seen some other monitors reach even higher refresh rates, up to 1,080Hz in fact, but that is currently only possible at a lower 720p (1280 x 720) resolution using a dual-mode function on normal 1440p panels. So this new AUO panel would be a native 1920 x 1080 resolution offering at 800Hz.

Additional high resolution dual-mode panels announced

In addition, AUO also announced a new 32″ 4K 360Hz panel with dual-mode functionality and an upcoming 27″ 5K 180Hz panel with dual-mode as well to meet the demands for high-speed frame updates and low-latency interaction. We would assume these two panels are using their IPS-type LCD panel technology, with dual- modes to operate at 1080p and 1440p resolutions respectively, although boosted refresh rate speeds were not disclosed.

More information and specs on all these new panels when we get it.
