Asus ROG Strix XG32UQDS Announced with a 32″ 4K 180Hz QD-OLED Edge Panel

Asus have unveiled their first 32″ sized OLED screen to utilise Samsung Displays QD-OLED Edge panel technology. The ROG Strix XG32UQDS is a budget friendly 32” screen which will also offer a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and 180Hz refresh rate. It is also set to feature their new Black Shield film coating which will help improve black levels in brightly lit rooms (a 40% improvement according to the product page) and increase the panels hardness to offer 2.5X better scratch resistance.

We first saw a 32” QD-OLED Edge panel at Computex in June, courtesy of MSI, specifically their MSI MAG OLED 321UPX18 model, and this was quickly followed by Gigabyte’s GO27Q32 which was announced in August. The Edge panel is aimed at entry-level gamers who wish to have an affordable introduction into the world of OLED, so what you compromise in terms of brightness levels and refresh rate specs should be reflected by a lower price point.

Asus ROG Strix XG32UQDS specs

The screen is 31.5” in size (32” class) with a flat format. It offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time spec, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% of the DCI-P3 colour space. It also offers a factory calibrated Delta E<2 colour accuracy.

HDR is more limited than other OLED monitors in their range, offering a peak brightness spec of only 450 nits and offering no VESA DisplayHDR certification at all. It still offers the per pixel level dimming, true blacks and infinite contrast ratio that OLED technology can offer of course.

The 180Hz refresh rate is supported with adaptive-sync for VRR from compatible systems and is certified under the NVIDIA ‘G-Sync compatible’ and AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ schemes. This model will also offer Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology to reduce ghosting, and alongside that to help in VRR gaming situations, the screen will also include ROG OLED Anti-Flicker 2.0 technology.

Other gaming features on offer here are Dynamic Crosshair, Dynamic Shadow Boost, AI Visual, GamePlus and Game Visual. The screen also supports 4:3 aspect ratios at 1280 x 960 or 1024 x 768 and 24.5” at 180Hz for those who play certain games in those configurations.

The display comes with a 3-year warranty and features Asus’ OLED Care Pro feature set, including their exclusive Neo Proximity Sensor and Custom Heatsink to help protect the panel against burn-in. Asus’s DisplayWidget Center software tool is also included to allow customisation of your monitor using the click of a mouse.

The stand offers a range of tilt, height and swivel adjustments, and features an attractive super slim and frameless design with a compact stand. Low Blue Light and Flicker-Free technologies, all of which come with TÜV certification, are also on hand to help reduce the risk of eye strain and fatigue. A Uniform Brightness setting can also be activated to decrease peak brightness, helping to keep levels consistent for better viewing.

Connectivity

Connectivity options include 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1 and a headphone jack. It also includes PiP/PbP support for handling multiple devices.

Availability and pricing

Details are pricing and availability are not yet known but expect it to come in at a competitive price-point for a 32″ OLED model.
