ASRock Enter the Monitor Market with the Phantom PG34WQ15R2B 34″ Ultrawide Gaming Display

ASRock are best known for their PC components like graphics cards and motherboards, but like other manufacturers such as Gigabyte and Corsair in recent times, they are now entering the desktop monitor market as well. The 34″ ultrawide ‘Phantom PG34WQ15R2B’ is their first offering and is focused on gaming. It has a 3440 x 1440 resolution, curved VA panel and a 165Hz refresh rate.

“Our goal is to create gaming lineups across the board,” said Chris Lee, Vice President of ASRock motherboard & gaming monitor business unit. “We are ecstatic to announce Phantom Gaming monitor, committed to making high-performance and reliable products to gamers.” Full details and specs available below.

ASRock Phantom PG34WQ15R2B Specs
The screen is 34″ in size with an ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio. It has a 1500R curvature VA technology panel, offering a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 550 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, an 8-bit colour depth and a fairly wide colour gamut covering 91% DCI-P3 and ~115% sRGB.
A high 165Hz refresh rate is available, supported by adaptive sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems, and the screen includes certification under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium’ scheme. A 1ms MPRT spec is also quoted implying the availability of a strobing blur reduction backlight mode too.

For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0 inputs along with a headphone output. The screen offers 2x 2W integrated speakers and the stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments.
Integrated Wi-Fi antenna

Most unusual is the inclusion of an “integrated Wi-Fi antenna” on this screen which is designed to act as your PC’s Wi-Fi connection. You connect the screen to the PC, and then you can use that to access your Wi-Fi network. This might be useful if you have a low cost or low quality wi-fi adapter in your PC perhaps, or it may help improve your coverage and signal if your PC is located under a desk or something where the antenna isn’t as out in the open as it would be when it’s integrated in to the screen.
Pricing and Availability
The screen is available in some regions including in the US from Newegg at a retail price of $429.99. The ASRock website does state “This model may not be sold worldwide”
