AOC Porsche Design PD49 to be Released with 49″ Curved QD-OLED Panel and 240Hz Refresh Rate
Originally published 25 Nov 2023, last updated 11 Dec 2023
Some limited information about a new monitor from AOC in their high-end Porsche Design series was released back at the end of Nov 2023, with the screen winning a Red Dot 2023 award at that time. We now have more official information from an AOC press release. The forthcoming AOC PD49 is a curved 49″ super-ultrawide monitor, and will offer a 5120 x 1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate and it has now been confirmed as being built around a Samsung Display QD-OLED panel.
Its design is “inspired by the cooling fins of the Porsche 911 whose performance is succinctly reflected by the surface structure of the back and the idiosyncratically shaped stand” say AOC. The Red Dot team said that “the monitor convinces with its iconic, expressive design as well as with its excellent hardware features.” The screen has a 5mm thickness to the panel, which is curved with an 1800R curvature.
AOC Porsche Design PD49 Specs
The screen is now confirmed as being built around a Samsung Display QD-OLED panel. It will use the same panel as existing models like the Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC that we’ve reviewed recently. This offers a 5120 x 1440 resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time spec, 1000 nits peak brightness and conforms to the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black scheme (not to be confused with the lowly HDR400 tier). It also offers a 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Adaptive-sync offers VRR from compatible systems, helping to support the high 240Hz refresh rate of the panel.
Functional design meets cutting-edge technology
As the AOC press release says, “The design approach of the PD49 mirrors the intricate details of a Porsche sports car. The PD49’s sandblasted aluminium cast stand, reminiscent of the steering wheel and wheel spokes of a sports car, anchors the monitor with a sense of grandeur. The rear of the monitor is inspired by the radiator grille of a Porsche 911. From a unique On-Screen Display design to an assertive boot-up logo, every detail underscores elegance. The dynamic and customisable RGB Light FX elements embellish both the back and front logos, oozing style with every glow.”
Connectivity Options include HDMI 2.1 and USB type-C
The PD49 boasts a suite of connectivity options. HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 are included along with USB type-C for video (with DP Alt mode and 90W power delivery). There is also a built in USB hub, complemented by four USB 3.2 ports and an RJ-45 input, ensures seamless connectivity. The built-in KVM switch allows users to connect two computers simultaneously, partitioning the Double QHD screen for multitasking aficionados. The screen also includes 2x 8W integrated speakers with DTS sound, and a 5MP webcam.
Pricing and Availability
The Porsche Design AGON PRO PD49 is available now in Porsche Design stores and specialist retailers as well as online at porsche-design.com and in selected online shops at an RRP of £1950.00
