AOC and Philips Unveil New 1000Hz Native Gaming Displays, Co-developed with BOE

Hot on the heels of LG’s recent announcement, AOC and Philips (both part of parent company, TPV) have now unveiled their 1000Hz native monitors, aimed at competitive gaming and esports. On May 20th, panel manufacturer BOE held an event to showcase its native “thousand-frame technology” and launch new products. At the event, AOC AGON and Philips Evnia, in collaboration with BOE, unveiled the AGON PRO AGP257FT and Evnia 25M4P5200T respectively. These monitors offer what they are referring to as “True 1000Hz FHD”, a marked differences to the 1000Hz+ displays we saw at CES which only operate at that refresh rate when using a dual-mode function, and when running at a lower 720p resolution. Here the 1000Hz refresh rate is available at the native 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution of the panel.

AOC AGON PRO AGP257FT and Philips Evnia 25M4P5200T specs
Only limited information has been provided so far for these new screens. We know they are 24.5″ in size and have a flat format. They uses a BOE ADS PRO (IPS-type) technology LCD panels with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 0.2ms G2G response time (take this with a pinch of salt!), 178/178 viewing angles and a standard gamut covering 99% sRGB.

For the AOC model at least, additional gaming features include a “BLMB” mode, which is apparently a “black bar insertion technology” for reducing motion blur. This sounds like a rolling scan backlight system.

They also promote the use of “EyeCare Circular Polarized Eye Protection Technology” which “simulates the spiral diffusion of natural light, significantly reducing the stimulation of directional polarized light on the eyes.” Combined with low blue light and flicker-free technology, it reduces visual fatigue from an optical perspective, achieving high refresh rate without eye strain, truly realizing the concept of healthy high-frame-rate displays.
Other specs and information are still to be confirmed.

Yan Lidong, Vice President of TPV Technology, Global General Manager of OBM Monitor BU, and General Manager of China/Asia Pacific Region, stated at the conference: “AGON has been deeply involved in the e-sports field for many years, always adhering to user experience as the core. With the implementation of BOE’s native 1000fps technology, 1000fps displays no longer only pursue refresh rates, but also take into account color, smoothness, eye health, and native performance. AGON’s ‘Quad-Core True 1000fps’ e-sports monitor AGP257FT deeply integrates the four core advantages of BOE’s native panel : ‘True Native, True Clarity, True Eye Protection, and True Color,’ bringing hardcore gamers and professional players a brand-new choice that balances competitive performance and daily experience, reconstructing the new standard for 1000fps e-sports monitors, and jointly creating an e-sports industry ecosystem of ‘competitive advancement.'”
A new joint laboratory to drive long-term innovation in e-sports gaming tech

In addition to the new product launch, another highlight of the conference was the official unveiling of the TPV Technology-BOE Joint Laboratory. TPV are the parent company of AOC. The two companies “will use this joint laboratory as a platform to jointly build a deeply collaborative innovation and R&D ecosystem”.
In terms of technological collaboration, they will integrate TPV’s global manufacturing, product development, and channel advantages with BOE’s panel R&D, optical technology, and high-end panel mass production capabilities. Focusing on three major areas they say – eye health and protection, ultimate gaming, and cutting-edge technologies. Their focus is on build a leading innovation and R&D ecosystem to support the upgrading of the gaming display industry.

Pricing and availability
At the moment there’s no confirmation on release in various markets, or expected pricing. Given these were announced in China, we expect to see them released there first and then it will be down to the other regions to decide if they want to launch them to US and European markets. More info as and when we get it.
