AOC have released an update to their popular AGON AG251FZ display from a couple of years ago. The new AG251FZ2 (handily named!) offers some improved specs and features, and uses the latest generation of AU Optronics TN Film panel. It’s 24.5″ in size and firmly aimed at competitive gamers.

The headline spec that’s been updated is the response time, with a 0.5ms G2G figure being promoted now compared with the old model’s 1ms G2G. Obviously this isn’t a major difference on paper, but it does signify the use of the latest generation of AUO TN Film panel. We’ve recently reviewed the Acer Nitro XF252Q which features one of these new generation panels and were very impressed by the response times and gaming experience. Along with the fast response time, the AG251FZ2 offers a native 240Hz refresh rate for high frame rate support and excellent motion clarity. Adaptive-sync is also supported for variable refresh rates from AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-sync systems.

In other specs the screen offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 170/160 viewing angles, 16.7m colour depth and standard sRGB gamut. Like it’s predecessor there are DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1.4, DVI and VGA connections provided along with a 4 port USB 3.0 hub. There are 2x 3W speakers and a headphone jack provided as well. A full range of tilt, swivel, height and pivot adjustments are offered from the stand.

Apart from the response time spec there doesn’t seem to be much changed, but it is useful to make use of a more modern panel.

The AG251FZ2 is already available in the US at a price of $329.99.
