Acer are soon to release three new 27″ models in their ‘Nitro’ gaming lineup, all featuring 2560 x 1440 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. There is not a lot of official information about these yet, but the new models are the Nitro XV272U (with IPS-type technology panel), Nitro VG271U (also with IPS-type technology) and the Nitro XF272U (with TN Film technology panel). All of these models feature a new wide gamut backlight offering coverage of 95% (for the IPS models) and 90% DCI-P3 (for the TN Film model), boosting them beyond the typical sRGB offerings currently available in the market in this area.

The XV272U and XF272U have a similar design as pictured above, while the VG271U has the same specs and features from what we can tell, but a different design.

All three screens support AMD FreeSync for variable refresh rates up to 144Hz, and are expected to carry the (fairly lose) VESA Display HDR 400 certification.  They are also expected to feature Acer’s “Visual-Response Boost” to offer a 1ms MPRT spec and to help reduce motion blur. This sounds like they will have some kind of added strobe backlight system, although official specs are not yet available to confirm 100%.

DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0 and Mini DisplayPort 1.4 connections are expected along with a multi-port USB hub and headphone output. Acer VisionCare with Flickerless, BlueLightShield, ComfyView and low-dimming technologies make viewing more comfortable during long periods of gaming. Outfitted with a VESA mount, the monitors can be hung on a wall to free up desk space, leaving more room for gaming controllers, mice and more. In addition, a ZeroFrame design maximizes viewing area and supports near seamless multi-monitor setups.

The new screens are due for release in Q4 2018 at an expected retail price of $499 (XV – IPS model) and $449 (XF – TN Film model). The VG271U wasn’t listed in the same Acer press release. More information and clarification on features and specs when we get them.

Update 7/3/19 – The Acer Nitro XV272UP 27″ 144Hz IPS gaming screen is due to be available in the UK around May time we are told. We will hopefully do a review when it is available.
