Acer EI491CR with 49″ Ultrawide VA Panel and 144Hz
Acer have released a new 49″ sized, ultrawide display in their monitor range. The EI491CR has a large 32:9 aspect ratio panel offering a 3840 x 1080 resolution and high 144Hz refresh rate. The screen features a VA technology panel from Samsung with a 3-side borderless design and 1800R curvature.
The refresh rate supported by the screen is listed as 120Hz native, but can support up to 144Hz via an overclocking feature apparently. There is AMD FreeSync 2 support as well for variable refresh rates. In other specs the screen offers a 4ms G2G response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The wider colour gamut is achieved through the use of Quantum Dot coating. Of course like many new screens this model carries VESA’s loose ‘DisplayHDR 400’ certification for HDR. You can read our issues with this particular certification scheme here, but suffice to say this model doesn’t feature any true, or meaningful HDR beyond a slightly boosted brightness of 400 cd/m2, and the extended colour space support.
DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0 and 2x HDMI 1.4 connections are provided for video, along with an SPK and audio out connection according to the spec sheet we have. There are also 2x 3W integrated stereo speakers. Support for PiP and PbP are mentioned on the main product page for the EI1 series screens, and there is also a 7 colour ambient lighting system provided from the stand and rear of the screen. The stand offers a basic tilt adjustment only.
The EI491CR is expected to be available in the UK in May at which point we will hopefully take a look at one for a review. It is listed on Acer.com at $899.99 USD as well at the moment.
