What We Know So Far About the Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ and Acer Predator X35

It was almost 2 years ago back in May 2017 that we brought you the first news of these forthcoming 35″ gaming displays from. First came the Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ (pictured above), and then a couple of months later Acer announced their equivalent, the Acer Predator X35. These models were of particular interest as they offered some exciting high end specs and features. Both these displays were supposed to be launched in Q4 2017 originally, but here we are in Q1 2019 and there’s still no real sign of them! We thought we would bring you a reminder of what these two displays are all about, along with the latest information we have on them since those original news pieces in 2017.

These two displays are 35″ in size and feature an ultrawide, 21:9 aspect ratio, 1800R curvature, AU Optronics VA-type panel. Of particular interest is the use of NVIDIA’s G-sync HDR module, supporting variable refresh rates of up to 200Hz and supporting proper FALD HDR implementation. The FALD HDR offers 512 zones for top-end local dimming on an LCD display. This is combined with the VA panel which has a high native contrast ratio and should offer as a result some pleasing HDR experience.

Spec wise the panel offers a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness for HDR, 178/178 viewing angles, and 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut thanks to the use of Quantum Dot coating.

The Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ features their Aura Sync lighting on the back cover to synchronize with in-game audio, or with Aura Sync-enabled PC components, keyboards and mice. There’s not much official information about Acer’s model, but the images on their product page suggest there will be some ambient lighting added to theirs as well.

The AU Optronics VA panel being used for these two displays has apparently gone in to mass production as of Q3 2018, according to the latest information we have. Acer have told us that they expect their X35 model to be landing around July time. We have not had a firm indication from Asus on their PG35VQ but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it slightly earlier. The price is no doubt going to be extremely high, like the 27″ PG27UQ / X27 were, although we do not yet have an official RRP.
