Philips 242M8 with 23.8″ IPS Panel and 144Hz Refresh Rate

A new screen from Philips has appeared on some regional pages of their website. The 242M8 is 23.8″ in size and features an IPS panel with 144Hz refresh rate. We’ve already seen the Acer Nitro VG240Y P announced with similar specs, so this looks like it will be another alternative model. The screen is part of Philips’ “Rush” series of gaming monitors and also features adaptive-sync (G-sync and FreeSync support).

Spec wise the screen is based on an IPS-type panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It features a 1ms MPRT spec, implying that a blur reduction backlight mode will be available. There is a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 16.7m colour depth and a 125% sRGB colour gamut. So the colour space is beyond a typical screen and should be around 90% DCI-P3 coverage. A 100% NTSC coverage is mentioned in the specs. As we’ve already said, the screen supports adaptive-sync for variable refresh rates from both NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards.

VGA, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4 connections are provided along with an audio output. Only a basic tilt adjustments is offered from the stand.

No word on pricing or release date in regions like the UK and USA yet. More info when we get it.

27″ alternative 272M8 – A larger 27″ version is also available with a very similar spec and appearance. It has the same 1ms MPRT spec, 144Hz refresh rate, 1080p resolution and same connectivity and stand adjustments. The only real difference is the screen size, and a slightly smaller colour gamut at 115% sRGB according to the spec
