LG 32GX870A Launched with 32″ 4K 240Hz OLED Panel and Now with DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR13.5)

LG have recently launched an update to their popular 32GS95UE OLED monitor that we have reviewed in the past. The 32GX870A is another 32″ sized OLED gaming monitor with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, Dual-mode function (1080p @ 480Hz) and a range of familiar features. The main differences seem to be a change to the sound system, reverting from the “pixel sound” approach from the previous model to just some standard integrated speakers here. The other change is the addition of a DisplayPort 2.1 connection instead of the previous DP 1.4 on the older model, although LG have confirmed this is operating with a UHBR13.5 speed (54 Gbps bandwidth) only and so it’s value is questionable given it will still need DSC to power the spec. Only a full UHBR20 DP 2.1 connection could handle 4K 240Hz without DSC.

LG 32GX870A Specs

The screen is built around an LG.Display WOLED panel with a flat format. It offers a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 275 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 98.5% DCI-P3. The 240Hz / 480Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR, with the screen also certified under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’, NVIDIA ‘G-sync Compatible’ and VESA ‘AdaptiveSync’ schemes. The dual-mode function allows you to switch between 4K 240Hz or 1080p 480Hz modes, depending on whether you want to prioritise frame rates of image quality.

For HDR they are certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black tier and offer a peak brightness of 1300 nits (1.5%) for HDR. The stand offers tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.

Connectivity

We’ve already talked about the 1x DisplayPort 2.1 connection (UHBR13.5, 54Gbps) and the screen also offers 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C connection (with DP Alt mode, data and 90W power delivery). There are also 2x USB data ports, a 4-pole headphone jack for immersive 3D audio with DTS Headphone:X sound and some integrated speakers.

Pricing and availability

The 32GX870A is available to buy now at a price of $1,399.99 USD from various major retailers, which is the same listed price as the previous 32GS95UE model. The screen is likely very similar in performance to the 32GS95UE we’ve previously reviewed, so check that out if you want to know a lot more about this screen.
