LG have released a new 27″ sized monitor in their range, the 27UP850-W. This screen has a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and is aimed at content creators and productivity enhancement. It includes a USB type-C connection for simple connectivity and also hardware calibration.

Spec wise the screen offers a 27″ IPS panel, 3840 x 2160 resolution, 5ms G2G response time, 1200:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 95% of the DCI-P3 reference space. The screen also features adaptive-sync for VRR support from both AMD and NVIDIA systems but has a 60Hz max refresh rate only.

The 27UP850 comes factory calibrated and also supports hardware calibration through LG’s Calibration Studio software which gives good flexibility and control over the screen settings and performance.

LG are keen to promote the HDR capabilities of the screen and talk on their website about how “Content creators working on HDR content will appreciate its capability to reproduce brightness and contrast for previews and editing.” They also promote the HDR experience for streaming media devices and movies but don’t get too excited. The screen carries the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification level but this does not require any form of local dimming from the backlight to actually offer an improved dynamic range. There is at least a boost in the colours of the display thanks to the wide gamut backlight (95% DCI-P3 quoted).

The stand offers tilt, height and rotate adjustments. For connectivity there is 1x USB type-C (power delivery 96W), 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 and 2x USB ports along with a headphone output. There are 2x 5W speakers integrated in to the screen too.

The monitor is listed with an RRP of $549.99. It is available in some regions including the US from Amazon (affiliate link).
