LG 27GM950B 5K Monitor Announced with a 2,304-zone Mini LED Backlight

Ahead of CES in a couple of week’s time, LG Electronics have unveiled their line-up of new monitors that will be on show at the event. They also announced the global launch of their new premium gaming monitor brand, UltraGear evo™, set to debut at CES 2026. One of the new models being announced is the 27GM950B, a 27″ sized gaming monitor with a 5K resolution and a Mini LED backlight which LG say is “designed to dramatically improve blooming control.”
They say that “by effectively minimizing halo effects that commonly affect high-resolution Mini LED displays, the monitor delivers professional grade 5K precision with exceptional optical clarity. Featuring 2,304 local dimming zones, combined with Zero Optical Distance engineering that minimizes the gap between the panel and LED, the monitor delivers ultra-high luminance and refined contrast accuracy that preserves fine details across bright and dark scenes alike.”

LG 27GM950B Specs

The screen is 27″ in size and offers a 5120 x 2880 “5K” resolution which delivers a 218 PPI pixel density. Panel technology is not listed (it’s LCD), but we’d assume this to be an IPS-type panel. It has a native 165Hz refresh rate which can also be doubled to 330Hz using the dual-mode function, when dropping to a lower 1440p resolution. It also offers a 1ms G2G response time, 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification, including a peak brightness spec of 1250 nits which is impressive. This is thanks to the 2,304-zone Mini LED backlight.
The 27GM950B incorporates the on-device AI solution, enabling 5K AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization and AI Sound to enhance image and audio in real time without GPU overhead. Connectivity includes 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and 90W power delivery).
LG UltraGear Evo

Building on LG’s established leadership in 5K and 5K2K gaming displays, UltraGear evo expands the boundaries of high-resolution gaming with a portfolio of 5K-and-above monitors spanning OLED, New MiniLED and ultra-wide formats, combining ultra-high definition, speed and immersion across multiple form factors.
As the press release says, “at the heart of this evolution is LG’s commitment to uncompromised image quality, reinforced by a newly introduced on-device AI solution. This proprietary technology powers the world’s first 5K AI Upscaling technology (available on some of their new models). This technology achieves stunning 5K-class clarity without the burden of GPU upgrades and allows gamers to enjoy a wider range of content in high definition – transcending original resolution limits.”
The 39GX950B includes this new on-device AI solution, and according to LG the monitor “analyzes and enhances content in real time before it reaches the panel, delivering stunning 5K-class clarity without requiring GPU upgrades. This goes beyond resolution, incorporating AI Scene Optimization and AI Sound, to refine images and audio performance for a more immersive audio visual experience.”
