Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM with 280Hz Refresh Rate IPS Panel and ELMB-sync
Details of a new screen in the Asus TUF Gaming range have recently appeared on Taiwanese retail stores. The VG279QM is 27″ in size and features a very interesting spec for gamers. It uses an IPS panel first of all with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, but offers a refresh rate of 280Hz (yes, 280Hz, not 240Hz!) This is supported by adaptive-sync for variable refresh rates from both AMD and NVIDIA systems, and the spec also suggests it will feature their ELMB-sync technology allowing for simultaneous use of VRR and blur reduction mode.
Spec wise the the 27″ IPS panel offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and standard 99% sRGB colour gamut. The 280Hz refresh rate we believe will be achieved through an overclocking option, extending the capability of the current native 240Hz IPS panels by a bit.
The screen does carry the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification but don’t expect any meaningful HDR experience here beyond support for that slightly higher 400 cd/m2 brightness.
The ELMB (Extreme Low Motion Blur) mode allows for a 1ms MPRT spec as well and offers a strobing blur reduction backlight. There is talk on the spec pages that this will also feature their ELMB-sync technology, allowing for simultaneous use of the blur reduction mode and VRR. You can see our review of their VG27AQ display for more info about ELMB-sync.
DisplayPort 1.2 and 2x HDMI 2.0 connections are provided. Aura sync RGB lighting is included. A full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments are offered from the stand.
No confirmation of availability or pricing yet in Europe or the US. More information when we get it.
