Yesterday at the AOC UK press event we had chance to hear about a forthcoming new gaming monitor, in their top end AGON series. The AGON AG273QZ is 27″ in size and features a 2560 x 1440 resolution (Quad HD) TN Film panel along with a native 240Hz refresh rate. There’s only a couple of 1440p 240Hz screens available in the market so far (Lenovo Legion Y27gq and HP Omen X 27) so it will be great to see more options released, from well-established gaming brands.

Hardcore gamers won’t need to decide between speed and image quality anymore, offering them the best of both worlds when it comes to resolution and refresh rate. This high res/refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync, giving VRR support for both NVIDIA and AMD systems. It is also certified under the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro scheme. This means it can also accept an HDR input, although only the lowly HDR400 certification is met here.

Spec wise the TN Film panel offers a 0.5ms MPRT which includes a blur reduction backlight option. It even has a wider colour gamut offering 126.4% sRGB and 93.7% Adobe RGB coverage. There is also a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 170/160 viewing angles and 16.7m colour depth.

AOC’s Light FX is a customisable RGB LED ring on the back for gamers. AOC knows what gamers demand, not least because of its sponsorship of the G2 eSports team. Therefore, it is no surprise that they have added a convenient carrying handle to the top of the stand so that players can easily carry their gear at tournaments and LAN parties. In addition, gamers can find headset holders on each side to keep their desk tidy. The AG273QZ also comes with an ergonomic stand that allows adjustments in height, tilt, and swivel which keep gamers in a healthy posture. In addition, Flicker-Free technology and Low Blue Light mode minimise eye strain during long-term gaming marathons. Extra features include AOC Game Color, AOC Shadow Control, six game modes (three of which are user-customisable), a new updated OSD interface and a new OSD software (G-Menu). 2x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 and 4x USB ports are provided along with a mic input and headphone output. There are also 2x 5W speakers built in to the screen.

AOC’s AGON AG273QZ will be available in February at an MSRP of €769 / £659.
