Acer Predator X38 P with 37.5″ Ultrawide Panel, 175Hz Refresh Rate and G-sync
Appearing on a leading Taiwanese retail store today is a new and exciting model from Acer. The Predator X38 P is a massive curved 37.5″ ultrawide screen which looks like it will offer basically the same spec and features as the long-anticipated (and still not properly available) LG 38GL950G. The X38 P features a 24:10 aspect ratio Nano IPS technology panel with a 3840 x 1600 resolution, as well as support for refresh rates up to 175Hz.
The native panel refresh rate is 144Hz but the screen will support an overclock up to 175Hz. The high resolution and refresh rate is supported for VRR through a Native G-sync module (v2) as far as we can tell, just like LG’s model. This allows for the reasonably decent overclock of the refresh rate offered here. It’s unclear at this time whether the module will feature the new firmware from NVIDIA to allow for VRR support from other compatible non-NVIDIA HDMI or DP devices like AMD graphics cards.
The screen offers a 1ms G2G response time, something LG have been pushing on their recent 27GL850 and forthcoming 38GL950G models, but which we quickly realised during testing was not a realistic figure for practical uses. Nevertheless you can see that the X38 P will be using the same LG.Display Nano IPS panel as the competing LG 38GL950G model.
In other specs the curvature is 2300R and there is a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth and a 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The screen does carry the rather meaningless HDR400 certification but while it can support an extended colour space and a slightly higher peak brightness than some screens (and accept an HDR input source), don’t expect any kind of local dimming here to actually improve the dynamic range sadly.
DisplayPort, HDMI, audio out and USB connections are mentioned in the spec for connectivity. There is also a factory calibration with dE <1 included. 2x 7W speakers are built in to the screen and there’s some additional RGB lighting features available. Tilt, height and swivel adjustments are offered from the stand.
No word on release dates in Europe or the USA at this stage of expected pricing. More news when we get it.

Update 6/1/20 – officially announced at CES 2020 we now have confirmation that the Predator X38 gaming monitor will be available in North America in April, starting at USD $2,399; and in EMEA in April starting at EUR 2,199. The press release implies it might be simply referred to as the X38 now as opposed to the X38 P, but they are one and the same.
